The first thing you need to know is how well different bolt on combos work together such as cams to compression or head to header or exhaust to collector.

Here is my combo to try to hit the 200wrhp mark

Complete KA rebuild kit High compression pistons 11.6Over bored block this is ok on a n/a motor 99 Altima rings chromeNew rod, crank bearings Polished and balanced crankFull balanced lower end all rods weigh the same pistons to!Steel head gasketPorted head “flow tested”268-degree cams lots of durationCam gears to pull to 7000 because no KA pulls to 7k and you guys know it!Lighted crank pulley Electric fansStage 2 or stronger clutch370cc injectorsLarger mass air flow meter full 3-inch intake tubePorted intake, ported exhaust portsHotshot headers “no cat”Nice 2 ½ back pipe BIG muffler! And some sort of really good ECU I would go for a Greddy e manage

I would also hack up the stock intake manifold to make it better.

Man I’m board!!!

Cam gears to pull to 7000 because no KA pulls to 7k and you guys know it!?????? The nassport 240 (frank honsowetz 1999) ka24e crank out 260hp @7800rpm and 220lb@6200rpm. Thats a race car of course Chris May....did say that the ka24de does have a hell of a vibration problem @ 7100rpm( he know's....no doubt) Carbs and a standalone will be needed to bypass all the emissions. Efi....can only take you so far. If you really want to get 200whp.....get the ka24e. But, you'll be better off staying with the ka24de with efi and nitrous for a daily drivable ,tunable engine. In recrap....ka24e....more hp potential.....ka24de.....more tuneable

How's that? The DOHC should be able to breathe better.

Nope....the ka24e can be ported alot better around the valves(more metal can be removed for a better flow) The ka24de has 2 cams for tuneability(advance intake, retard intake, advance exhaust, retard exhaust) The ka24e can either be advance intake/exhaust or retard intake/exhaust. The nassport 240's run the ka24e to get more hp out of it

they run the E because that's what they're allowed to run. i'm not sure of all the rules and regulations, but the DE is illegal.

I'd say no to the steel head gasket, the stock one is fine to at least 450rwhp, so you don't need it.

DOHC will flow better. think of a circle, then draw the valves in it, first draw two circles(one intake and exhaust valve) then look at a drawing with 4 circles within the larger one( 2 inatek, 2 exhaust) you will notice the area encompassed by the 4 vavles is greater within the piston area(large circle) than the 2 valve setup.

thats just logic.

and the answer to this "200hp" question reamains the same it awlays has:MONEY.

you gotta pay to play.-chet

This is very true. A friend of mine gave me a copy of his Sports Car Magazine (SCCA) and it showed the rules where only a SOHC KA could be used, had to use carbs with a certain size restrictor. There's more, but those were the significant things I remember.

It could be possible more material in the SOHC could be removed, but the limiting factor would then be valve size, like Exar-Kun said.

If you're going to run an aftermarket standalone ECU, i'd probably go for something from Haltech, Wolf 3D (V4), Autronic or even the new EMS 8860 (providing closed loop fuelling is available). As for the hacking up the intake manifold, have any of you considered a quad throttle body setup? This would definetly help you to the goal of 200rwhp.

Nissan Motorsports actually makes larger exhaust valves that need to be machined into the head. Obviously just for the SOHC.

JNM240: How much bigger? Also, what are the valve diameters for the standard inlet & exhaust valves? (for the sohc motor)

i have had both the de and the e in my car and i would have to say the de made alot more power and had more potential for power just for the fact that two is better than one, the de has two cams which are very good for tunability and tunability equals power , and 16 valves are better than 12 valves more air and fuel equals more power

that sounds like some expensive modding... anyone know a price estimate to do all that?

These guys have great tech pages on pretty much everything and they have a great affordable stand alone. http://www.sdsefi.com/
