what is the best way to stop my car from running...i mean like when the key is in the ignistion..... what im trying to do it put a push botton starter that doesnt need the key. cuz needing the key kinda kills the point of the whole thing. i can get the button working and all now but there is a problem of stopping the motor when i want.any ideas? maybe some kind of "kill switch" to kill the motor at a push of the button. if so where can i wire this to? thanks for any help.

ok...i was thinking here...and before i try it i want to run it pass you guys and see if you think it will work... ok. if the starter is close looped and starts with out the key. can i put a switch between one of the wires and when it is on it will complete the connection and when it is off it will seperate the conncetion and kill the motor? will that work? i dont know exactly how the whole starting system works. hope that will work. please let me know. thanks.

well, if you feel the need to perform this idiotic procedure, this is what you have to do.

to eliminate the key, you have to disable the steering lock mechanism.

after that, your gonna need an FSM to trace the wires from the ignition switch.

your gonna need a DPDT toggle switch and a NO push button.

the toggle switch will supply power to the circuits when in the on position that the ignition switch supplies when the key is at "run".

the push button will supply power to the starter solinoid.

voila!! a vehicle that requires little to no effort to steal!!

Like a key??? Some one will take it just because it would be that easy. Don't do that. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

guys let him do what he wants,I'm not sure what your saying with the whole starter thing, but if i'm getting this right you want to put a switch on the starter, i'm not sure if this will work because i thought that the starter only spins the flywheel to get it moving, after the engine stops the little gear moves outta place (not sure if that's how it works but that how i always thought it worked) then i don't think it would kill the engine that way.

The key has to be turned to the on position before you can start the car anyways. You can always just tap into the wiring for the 3rd position so you can activate the starter while the key is in the 2nd position. I had a set-up like this in my fisrt car, but it was only to get by an issue with the car not wanting to start with the key. But I still had to use the key to turn the car on.

what about the radio and A/C and all the accessories? you would have to have another switch for those, get a remote start if you dont want to 'key-crank' but you need the key to move it.the SRT-10 Viper has a push button start, but all it does is replace the starter switch in the ignition.

Assuming your 89 is the same as my 91, there should be five wires on a six pin connector going to the ignition switch.

One line going to the ignition is the hot line (+12v). The ignition switch in the ACC position connects that wire to one other wire and so powers the accessories. In the ON position it powers the accessor wire and engine electric wire. In the START position it cuts power to the accessories and powers the engine wire, starter solenoid wire and a wire to the ecu.

A friend of mine did this to his z31 rust-bucket that he didnt care if it got stolen. He had a toggle switch for the accessory power, a toggle for engine power and a start button. To start the car you flip the engine power on and hold down the start button until the engine started. He could start the car with the accessory on too. To stop the engine you just cut the power to the engine with the toggle switch. That is exactly how the ignition switch kills the engine.

You also need to somehow remove the steering wheel lock.

Well, it's kinda hard to beleive you want that, especially if you're a daily driver. But hell if you want it do it. I would think this would be for track use only. Even though i see no need for push start even on the track for one of our cars. Maybe a Nascar or F1 I would think has a push button start (well, duh)
