I'm feeling GREAT right now!!! Lately I have been frustrated with my car because of the awful gas mileage/performance I have been getting.. Even after I replaced the O2 sensor, coolant sensor, plugs/wires, Put on a K&N Cone filter, cleaned the MAF took out the AIV and the EGI, etc... etc.... I still only had small improvements in performance my car still was rough and caughing at idle.. I was also still only getting 15mpg! I finally fixed the POS! how? Well I pulled out the trusty Sawzaww and cut off the catalytic converter! I bought a section of 2.5 inch pipe from Autozone and that Gauze\Hardener stuff for repairing exhaust systems and I sealed her up. When I started the car I was like WOAH the sound is so nice and smooth now and she has a nice healthy ROAR when you push the gas the idle is rock solid and I have a TON more power. I will post my gas mileage once I run down this tank. if you want I can post pictures of the repair/cat cut off... I so want to hit the thing with a sludge hammer! i'm not going to... I can only imagine all the nasty crap that's in that thing. On the way back from the gas station there was this new Toyota Celica with an unpainted bodykit on I thought hmm Ricer! great! I gave my engine a little rev at the light he did the same when it went green we both pealed out and I smoked him!

P.S it was a 16yo Cat and it was all clogged up on the inside... DO NOT take off your cat if you have to get your emissions checked the EPA will come down on your ***!

haha ya really, but i was gonna do the same thing almost. and it reminds me of in auto class how there was a truck getting horrible gas mileage and they couldnt figure it out then they did and the cat was clogged.

Ok... I feel like totally making you feel stupid you but I will not... I will just point out that I am getting FIVE more miles out of EACH and every single gallon! thing about how much that HELPS the enviroment! The cat was not functional anyway! i'm sure now my car is 10 times BETTER for the enviroment then it was! Do you know how a cat works?? it cuts down on exhaust gasses but at the same time makes some pretty NASTY stuff!

Which is why I run open DP....or my excuse naywayz because I can't afford exhaust, and my turbo was melting the junk inside my 13yr old cat.

Thats great. I know how that feels. My ghetto setup gets leaky from time to time and its always great when i get theleaks welded up. Im sure that the cat was restricting a lot of flow, and the old AIV **** is worthless by now. my current exhaust is giving me **** because of exhaust leaks and the like. I cant wait until I get a new 3" and a header.

As for emissions and the environment, I'd say that since hes getting much better fuel economy hes helping the environment more than before. This, however, should not be an endorsment for taking your cat off if it is functional. Just get a hi flowing one. And who ever said that diesel truck, boats and TRAINS pollute more than cars needs to go back to school. The massive volumes of gas powered cars on the roads far out-pollute all other indutry and transportation combined.

i have my exhaust from my SR powered 180 in okinawa and just got my shipment delivered. The *** who owned the car before me decided to weld all the exhaust together so I cant take off the cat and gut it. In my garage I have a complete, downpipe and back, 3 inch exhaust sitting in my garage... so does the muffler shop make an adapter for the header/elbow to fit the 3in downpipe?

Just because you're getting better gas milage means you aren't releasing as much CO2 into the atmosphere, but now you're releasing unburned hydrocarbons, NOXs and CO...Much worse.

all of that stuff does not magicly go away if you have a cat! it's still there is just changes in from one nasty substance into another nasty substance. don't get me started on the global warming B.S

well what 'nasty substance' does it turn into? I learned about catalytic converters once but i forgot......the epa would not approve it if it was making bad stuff right?

^ not true. the epa chain, like every other form of government, is only as effective as its weakest link. think about all of the law suits because of the drugs the fda approved that were discovered to have deadly side-effects years down the road. whatever the epa says now could beproven completely wrong in the future when we are better able to understand what were doing because of technological advancements and trial and error time.

if you are that worried about the environment dont drive a car at all, and if you dont have a car what are you doing on this forum?

a dirty cat that is causing a car to run like his was isnt holding all that stuff in it forever, its pushing all that built-up concentrated poision goodness out the exhaust making 10x the pollution he is without a cat.
