I tried searching but all that comes up is those damned clicker remote starters.

I am going to check out an engine that is in the car, but not wired up. I want to use my remote starter to crank the car for my compression reading.

I thought you just hook up one of the clips to the small ground plug on the starter and the other one to battery ground, but this didn't work when I tested it on my car. If anyone could clarify, I'd appreciate it.

Also, what is the position of the key supposed to be?

Well, I'll take a stab at it.

I'm assuming the battery is hooked up if you are cranking to get compression. The clips to the starter switch would go between battery positive and the positive terminal on the starter. Also, you need to supply the one wire from the solenoid with battery positive or else the motor turns but the bendix won't pop out. I haven't tried this with a Nissan, but it should work.

Also, make sure at least the starter is grounded to the battery.

Unplug the injectors... (if there is an ECU)

Take a piece of wire, and find the starter. There are 3 wires on it, battery (into solonoid, signal (to close solonoid), and out of Solonoid into the starter. The frame of the solonoid is the negative.

Jump from the +12 battery to the signal wire. This will close the solonoid and turn the starter.

This can be done with out an ECU, it wont start but will try. You can compression test an engine strapped to a pallet this way.

ok cool so the fat wire that attaches to the starter is (+) and stays there. The other small wire gets jumped to battery (+). The only negative is through the starter so I better make sure my engine is grounded.

this is on a ka24de btw

sound about right?
