i was wondering if anyone could get me instructions on how to install my brand new tein s-tech springs ( thanks to FALK). Im pretty newbie at this and my friends and I think it would be a fun project to do. We are willing to put in the elbow grease and get this done if only we knew how. I also dont want to pay like $100 - $150 to get it installed at a shop. unless you guys think it will be better to get it professionally done.Very detailed instructions needed my fellow Y33 buddies! thanks!

If you can get someone to do it for 150, do it... that's cheap. Lowest quote I got was 350 up to 765

No way will you find anyone to install these for 150 bucks in Los Angeles, maybe in Mayberry in 1966 Goober and Gomer would have done it for that rate. My LA-based mechanic Z-Expert cut me a killer deal at $300, not sure if he'd do that for you but the rears are pretty easy compared to doing McPherson struts up front.

If you have no experience doing this, call Richard (310-396-7200) and see what he'd do it for, tell him Jeff Leeds sent you and you're coming in from outside the area. He just did mine two months ago, he knows what he's doing and I wouldn't trust Midas or Firestone type of joints with my Q45. I drove down from San Fran to get him to do the install.

Yeah, the Q is nothing like doing a Civic, it's a 3 - 4 hour job. My mechanic did mine and my shocks, but Diamond Bar is pretty far away. Jeff really likes his guy, I really like mine. I worked with my guy a few years back, he's been my mechanic since '99 and he's one of my friends, so I trust him. But he'll charge about 3-400.

You and your friends could do it though, with lots of patience. Elwesso can hook you up with a PDF of the Factory FSM and it has the directions.

Its not hard, but messing with spring compressors can be DANGEROUS if you dont have the proper equipment...

The easiest way IMO (assuming you have a backup ride) is to take the old shocks to a shop, and have htem properly install the springs on the shocks, and then you can simply R/R the strut assy, to save a little bit of money... almost just worth it to take it to a shop, they shouldnt charge more than 1 hour/corner to R/R springs.

Wes, keep in mind the Y33 front is not like the G50 front. You have to remove so much stuff to get the front struts off: brakes, wheel hub, end links, control arms, it's a royal PITA. The rears are simple and will take under an hour for both, the fronts are easily 3 hours between them. Now when I say my mechanic did mine, he did, but I was right there helping him with the job the whole time. It's not hard per-se, just very time consuming. Taking the springs off and replacing them is the easy part. It's getting to the point that you can even get the springs off that sucks.

If it were me I'd WAIT until I got my KYBs before I'd install these puppies. Why pay double labor? I certainly would not install them with your old stockers.

Also $100 to $150 would not get you very far as far as this job is concerned.

Ditto!

Even the new factory inserts (front) didn't last more than 15,000 miles on my car with Eibach's and then Tein's. The new factory struts (rear) were still good (approx. 20-25K miles) at the time at the KYB SR-Specials.

I am installing my springs on at this moment. I encounterd two problems ,it's hard to get off the ball joint nut ,since I can't get to it with any of my air tools. The other problem is tighting the end link nut back on. I might just get new end links, since I have to go tho the dealership for some parts. I finished the front passenger side. I am not driving the Q now, so I am taking my time. Installing springs by my self with in a weekend can be fasturatung.

Don't take the ball joint off, instead leave it connected to the control arm and remove the control arm with the strut. Even better would be to disconnect everything except the ball joint and control arm and swing the top of the strut out from inside the fender. I just did this and it was easier to work on while connected to the car. Good luck!!

That was what I did, too.
