through my searches i've noticed people burning out their TCU's installing cd' players. i have a cd deck and i want to install it myself, best buy wants to charge $100 just to install my own . so anyways, does anyone have an advice or a step by step for installing an alpine CD player into a '90 hatch without burning out the TCU and causing the dash lights to go out ? thanks.

i would unplug neg terminal on battery, then connect all wires, any loose wires, INDIVIDUALY electricle tape up, and you will need a stronger ground, the stock one sucks, i used a 18g wire and ran it to a bolt on the shift boot area... youl see... then once everything is connected and elec. taped up.. connect the battery again, this should do the trick... the thing that seems to burn out the tcu is any shorts in the system caused by hot wires touching the wrong connections... good luck

to add,

don't hook up the illumination wires to the aftermarket cd player; just tape them off... since the aftermarket has it's own lighting system. (i forgot the 2 wire colors) see install doctor.com for more info

the illumination wires are the orange ones, i think one has a white stripe down the side and the other is full orange
