Today, I designed and installed an adjustable cup holder in my Q because the one we have in our center consoles suck, especially since the lid closes down on the straws in our drinks. I went to Lowe's and bought a 1X1 inch stick of hickory I think and then a flat 1/4 inch by 2 inch piece of the same type of wood. This second piece is to mount the cup holder on and to move it a half inch or so away from the console latch assembly. I bought a 4 pack of M4-.70X50 hex cap screws, I think they were 2 inches long to clear the two pieces of wood and the plastic cup holder and center piece. I bought nylon lock nuts for the hex cap screws. I bought the cup holder from Target for about $1. Its an adjustable type so you can put all kinds of drink containers in.

First I measured how long I needed to cut the wood pieces, just mark it on the wood and Lowes will cut it for free. I drilled two holes into the center trim piece to secure the wood pieces and cupholder. The holes are so small that it is very difficult to see. In addition, this mod can be reversed if a new owner does not like how it looks. I painted the wood pieces black before I installed the cupholder and wood pieces to the trim piece. I had to use a wood screw to secure one side of the cup holder to the wood because the hex cap would have interfered with the sliding of the cup holder. I drilled the holes into the wood pieces counter sunk so the cup holder would lay down flat on it.

All I can point out is we make a good living by replacing the Air bag controller and gas pretensioners on seat belts FROM SPILLED LIQUIDS.

Be sure to balance $1800 against pulling over and having a relaxing beverage inside away from the Q.

yea dude dunno it just sticks out to much kinda ruins the interior never mind the damage it would cause if a drink would ever spill from that thing which is doubtable cause its damn near cemented in there.

Hmm. I wouldn't risk it.

I just tell people that the absence of cup holders means that they shouldn't be drinking in my car anyway.

Yikes, that doesn't sound too good for business. The beauty of this mod is that its totally reversible.

The Germans were correct, driver's cars don't have cupholders.

Any open container is an anathema to any electronics downstream.

Use bottles with tops only!

Just having a mental process that thinks: smoking, drinking, eating, cellphone/text use, distractive loud music or children in a car may never be reversable.

Nice, especially in taking the incentive.

I'm actually in the middle of modifying a 2000 Maxima center console to fit my '92 Q45.

I've relocated the electronics that were under the original console to the dash and the Max console only runs $6.00 at my local u-pull.

So with recovering it in black leatherette/vinyl my total cost excluding labor will be around $30.00, ( $24/yard leatherette),.

But this fits into my plans nicely, since I've relocated my parking brake to the console area anyway.
