I've got a 1988 nissan 300zx base modle with about 100k miles on it and I wanna learn some ways to increase the horsepower. I understand a turbo would help but im in school and don't have that kind of money yet. The only mods I have are a K&N air filter and a HKS High power muffler. Any help would be appreciated!

With the platform you have, I would concentrate FIRST on maintenance (bring her to her former glory because usually catching up on all maintenance will net you a bigger HP gain than any mods) then on suspension mods because there is nothing short of FI or Nitrous that will give you any kind of formidable HP boost.

If you are short on cash and have a clean running car, just enjoy it. getting the footwork squared away would make it faster just by being better planted and able to make use of the power you have.

Couldnt even begin to tell ya where to search for Z31 parts, they are very different from the Z32 so most places that specialize in Z32s don't deal with Z31s sorry man.

Quit school, grow mullet, add turbo.

This is the way to get a fast Z31 (or so I'm told).

In all seriousness, performance cars are a very expensive hobby and the work is more complicated than you think, requiring lots of free time to finish the projects and installs. You're still in school and if you could afford it, you probably would be driving something nicer than a Z31 300zx I think, and you probably don't have the free time either.

I'd be happy to be rocking a stock late-model Z31, personally. They are kinda rare and I personally like the rear taillight weirdness that everyone else seems to hate on...
