It feels like I have been drinking more gas lately even with a light foot. Our van (Honda oddysse) does alot better in the city and highway. Air pressure acording to the comp is around 34 or less, and we did a wheel allignment not to long ago. I checked the air filter and it looks very clean, even though I ordered a new one. It feels like I am getting 12-14mpg in the city then 20 on the highway. In one day just going to work and driving on the highway for a half hour, I already had less then half a tank of gass. How many miles do you usually drive before you change the air filter? I hope this will make a big difference. I always stay under 3k to let it shift.

I get about 12-14 (on a good day) driving around town like the old (er) man I am. I can get up to about 27 on a level road @ 55-60. Usually more like 21.5 @ 70 highway driving. I have about 46k on my machine. It seems the mileage improves as you accumulate more miles.

These machines were built for luxury and varoooom..! These things are not conducive to good mileage; but you knew that before sliding into the driver's seat?

I knew it, but I would have assumed that it would get better mpg then a awd 8cyl suv, or even a rwd 8. It's not bad but if they had a 6 gear highway mpg would be an increase since the car wouldn't be running on 3k rpm

Wait a second here. If you knew the gas mileage, which is 15/20 , that is the same as a AWD V6 SUV (with a 7spd), and 14/19 for a 5spd V6 AWD SUV. And a V8 AWD SUV get about 13/18 (Again 7spd).

AWD are generally horrible on gas mileage - even with a smaller displacement. If you NEED AWD, you just trade mileage for safety, if not, you just wasted your money I guess.

I can pay for the gas fine, I just thought that it would be 16/24 like the infiniti dealership said, and most websites although I do see some with 16/22. I just think it is weird that a awd bmw x5 8cyl awd does around the same on gas or similar. But I love the car and i think it makes up for the mpg, but thought it would get around what the Infiniti dealership told me which was 16/24. Car does great in snow though

But I think if I put in a new airfilter I should get close to 16 mpg with a light foot.http://www.cars.com/go/compare...,7974

EPA rating system changed for the 2008 model years. The M didnt change but the numbers on the sticker went from 17/24 to 16/22.Dont drive with a feather foot. The car spending so much time under load will drink more fuel than if you accellerate at a decent pace to cruising speed. Accelerate briskly until the car feels ready to go into 3rd gear, then go feather foot to your 30 or 40mph cruise speed. When I started doing that, I noticed my MPG improved by about 30 miles per tank.

I drive 23 miles to work (one way). The trip is about 72% highway (I did the rough math). Even in full automatic and driving with a relatively light foot I barely scratch 20.

With cruise control, I can get up almost to 22

But I don't use either of these. i use the automanual and I'm stuck at 18.1

The money spent on gas is quite a bit especially with prices back up but I decided that I'm committed to doing with this car what I bought it for which was a fun, luxury drive. So that's what I'm going to do. I just make sure to keep maintenance up, tires inflated, and not go too crazy with the gas.
