I have a 1990 usdm 240sx XE coupe.

The motor in the car is not the orignal one, but it IS a KA from what I can tell..... however it is a dual cam motor, and I thought that the usdm s13's didn't come with a dual cam motor... so I guess this car has a swapped motor?

I'd like to do a tune up on it, and can't assume the previous owner was even remotely vigilant on such things... now normally I'd replace the spark plugs with the same ones, but apparently there are different p/n's for the different year ka's - at least according to ngk's website.

Is there an identifying mark somewhere on the motor that will tell me what year it came out of? The car is misfiring currently and I'd like to do distributor cap/ rotor button/ plugs/ plug wires.

TIA!

most likely a 91-93 240sx ka. Just go to your nissan dealership and buy parts for 91-93 240sx.

91 - 93 s13s had DOHC, way to search. All plugs are the same.

Thanks for the replies - I guess I should mention that I did search and turned up nothing related to my thread here.

Now let me rephrase: Is there an identifying mark somewhere on the motor that will tell me what year vehicle it came out of - or at least give me a clue as to whats inside of it (c/r), etc?

.....if they're all the same, why does ngk list different part numbers for different year ka24de's?

ex:

1990 240sx: ZFR5E-11

1998 240-sx: BKR5E-11

?????

RIF:

I have a 1990 240sx. Check my original post.

It has a dual cam KA24.

I asked what I thought is a simple fundamental question in the TECH forum; re: identifying markings. I still have not received a reply to that question.

In the meantime, I found bosch platinum plugs FR8DPX (I hate bosch ignition components) in my motor, so I removed them. I also noted that the equivalent plug for ngk is BCPR5ES-11 (according to this site: http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/p...2.htm).

I couldn't get ngk's or short notice, so I went with denso ugrove's: p/n K16GPR-U11.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.....

Although I think I found the misfiring problem - plug wire #3 isn't ngk like the other three... and it isn't firing at all when I tested it... so back to the store tomorrow for new plug wires... :/

fyi, denso also lists at least two different plugs for the ka (I only checked a couple of years on their site):

1998: K20R-U11 or PK20R11 or IK201990: K16GPR-U11
