Trying to reinstall the alternatlor on Q45. It has a Stopper Nut(nut welded to a bent piece of steel flat stock) on the long pivot bolt. How do I secure the Stopper Nut to the alternator while I'm putting the alternator into position. I'm thinking of glueing it, but I know this isn't the correct method.

Hey, welcome to NICO.

There are several posts on this in IOM (Infiniti Online Mechanic, where this post should be). Trya search there.

On my son's 1991, I used 5 minute epoxy with the alternator unmounted, using the bolt to hold the nut in place, waited until the epoxy started to tighten up, then removed bolt, oiled the threads and installed the alternator.

We did not have the OEM nut, since the person who installed the alternator before my son bought the car just skipped installing the nut to begin with. I suppose some mechanics have different standards.

Drake.

Double sided tape has been used also.

Wrap tape around your finger, with the sticky side out. That will hold the nut in place while you start the bolt into the threads.

I typically use "sticky-tack" or "poster putty" to adhere it to the alternator until I can get the bolt threaded into the nut.

Keep in mind that this will only work if the pieces that you are using it on are clean, dry, and not too cold/hot.
