How to hardwire your Escort Passport™ Radar detector with remote mute.
These are the tools you will need to make this as painless as possible:
ScrewdriversScissors3M™Acrylic foam tapeStringFishtapeO-ring pick
Start by removing the A-pillar. Pull from top towards the steering wheel. When the tabs have popped out, lift out of dashboard.
Remove top heater vent. With a screwdriver wrapped in cloth, slide the screwdriver beside the vent and "pop" it out. Run Fishtape behind the gauges over to the A-pillar. Pull Fishtape up out of the dash. The O-ring pick works well for this.
Attach the string to the Fishtape. pull the string back through the dash. Attach the string to the phone jack style end of the detector cable. Pull the detector cable from the heater vent to the A-pillar.
Remove the plastic covering the wire running to the mirror.
Pull plenty of cable out from the dash. Connect the radar detector. Run the wire up next to the mirror wire. Take the O-ring pick and VERY GENTLY pull down the headliner just enough to insert a Popsicle stick.
Run the wire from the detector to the mirror, then through the headliner. Use the Popsicle sticks to pull down the headliner enough to insert the wire (the O-ring pick is useful here too). After the wire is pushed into the headliner, gently pull the wire taut towards the A-pillar. Run the wire down the A-pillar to the dash. Pull the wire taut from the heater vent.
**NOTE** Now is a good time to make sure that everything works properly. Check your power source and ground to make sure you didn't damage the cable in the process of pulling it.

Remove the trim piece that holds the ashtray, hazard light switch and shifter surround. Disconnect all plugs on trim piece. Drill a notch for the wire.
Drop the remote mute unit beneath the heater vents and behind the stereo. Pull out under the stereo.
Strip the outer insulation around the cig lighter wires. Attach the splice clip sent to you by Escort™.
Replace trim piece and make sure that you don't crush the wires. Take some 3M™ acrylic foam tape and secure the top and back or the remote mute unit.
Replace heater vent and A-pillar. You can also get a small suction cup (used for Christmas lights) to keep the wire taut against the glass.
Turn on the car and enjoy!!!
