you can get an SR to pass emissions by getting a good quality cat and lean out the mixture slightly. it may pass the sniffer but it wont pass the visual check.

i thought in cali they didnt use 'sniffer' laws, and the 'smog' laws are different? isnt that true? from what i have heard, it will pass sniffer for states that require sniffer, but the smog test have a narrower window for emmisioins, and the sr's wont even pass that part, is that false? eh, i dont care, im not moving to cali, lol

smog laws have stiffer testing, visual inspection, and ecu inspection last time I checked, I could be wrong though. : ) Cali uses smog. You can pass a sniffer so long as your engine isn't too outrageous.

Well the emissions laws differ from state to state so its kinda hard to encapsulate how to get through some states laws. Tell us a state and we may help you, though all the information you need to know is already on the web.

Bends over and lets out a slow and loud ripple. So will my fart cannon pass the SMOG test? *looks out window and sees birds falling from the sky*

does anyone here w sr20det live in Rhode iSland? have you been able to pass emissions test? I registered my car but didn't get the emissions test done yet- I still have the KA but am considering the swap in the relatively near future. SRswap in NY is only 3 hours from me, I may have them do it.

What's the deal with everyone wanting to know how toget the SR20DET to pass emission, and then you other guys running around with the SR20DET engine in your car? At what point do you have to pass the emissions? If you got it shipped and put it in and everything who would know? Except for the people who ship it over(UPS?). Any of you Atlanta people got the SR20DET? You can tell I know a lot about this can't you. :D

Best way I can think of is to either suck it up and dont get an SR or get the emissions test b4 the sr is in. Other then that you will have to pretty much have a good cat on with slightly lean burn and low boost to pass the sniffer. Some places are more strict then others about emissions. Also if u gotta pass the visual but good luck and hope u got a dumbass for a visual. Other then that, if you dont know how to pass the emissions and worry about it a lot, then dont do the swap. SIMPLE AS THAT.

I've had my car for just over two years now, and I don't remember ever having to get it checked to pass emissions. My moms had her 92 240sx since 1993, and I don't remember her having to do any of this either. Maybe Georgia doesn't care about emissions..someone from Ga clear this up for me.

I heard from a guy who tests cars that mixing "wood alcohol" with pump gas will help you pass emissions tests. Has anyone else heard this?

:) I guess I'm exempt then, I don't like in those counties. I guess I'm screwed if I move to Atlanta though.:)

I live in atlanta, and I had to get emissions done to register my car. So when you buy a car, you need to get emissions in order to register. The real question is if you need to get it tested again when you renew your registration after a year, which i don't think you need to do...atleast not annually. Anyone?

this has been said many times, the $100 handshake works pretty damn well.

Or you could be like me and get a job at a place that does emmisions testing, dont be a jackass, become freinds with the guys that work there, quit, and then never worry again. or at least until i have to move :rolleyes

If a dual carbed, 2.2L can pass smog in cali, so can your SR20DET with a cat.

You have to pass sniffer annually for cars up to 25 years old. For cars 96 and newer you have to pass OBDII. If you would like to know more about ATL emissions, shoot me an email.
