I have a 95 with a redtop in it. I went and bought a new defrost button for the rear window cause mine didn't work. This one doesn't work either, the little defrost symbol is light up constantly, so I know it has power. But, the on/off light doesn't come on and you can't hear the button actually click in or out. It's wierd, cause it's brand new. How could I get my defrost to work, is there anything else I should check out?

btw, I don't have a/c, could that be the problem? Thanks!

On the rear window you should a terminal on each side where the wiring plugs into. Those could be disconnected or broken. I don't know if there is a fuse for that though. Sometimes the elements just go out and don't work too.

Yeah, there's actually 2 terminals on 1 side, and 1 on the other. They all are plugged in, I just don't see any problems at all. Is there anything else I can check, anything that may be hidden? It'd sure be nice to have defrost!

Have you ever had defrost since you've owned the car?

No it never has, only owned it since May. And he had a company do the swap and all of the wiring. I don't think there's even a fuse to it either.

Get a multimeter and check resistance. Start at the hook ups at the window all the way to the switch. If there is a break in between then you gotta get creative and find where the break is. If is anywhere inside the wiring (not visible with the naked eye) it gets hard. The FSM has very good diagrams showing how to do it.

Check that you have voltage in the socket that connects to the defroster elements first, perhaps.

If your car was re-tinted there is a good chance the heating elements in the window were damaged. I would check the glass elements with a multi-meter and try to find the break. IIRC there is a kit you can buy to repair the elements in the glass.

I have a multimeter, but I'm not sure what kind of measurements I should get for resistance and voltage at the source? It's like 6 or 8 pins so who knows which ones should get power? And should I check at the 3 connections on the rear window, or should I check the actual black lines that run across the rear window? If those even put out power that is.

Do all of your guys' buttons actually make a clicking sound when you push them in? Mine doesn't, and the on/off light never comes on. Thanks for the help!

You should have a tactile "click" feel when you push the switch and the ind. light should come on at the switch. You should also hear a relay click under the dash on the driver side (on mine anyway, it's a '91.) I'm sure they're still using the relay on your model. I'm having problems too. I get all that and it still doesn't work. I've got one element line heating - the thing must be a pin cushion full of holes. I get 12 volts at the terminals where the element plugs in. Let me know you make out. I'm wondering if I can replace the whole element. Probably be tougher than tinting your own windows....
