There are groups of people in Kansas City who would like to put on a drift event, but it doesn't look like it's going anywhere. The Midwest is still stuck in the Dark Ages, as always. Whenever it feels like we might finally have something, things come tumbling down. The SCCA sanctioning bodies seem to look down on drifting, and are against sharing their lots, and the local people with influence in the automotive scene are either againts drifting, or are very skeptical about it. If anyone on here has any experience with organizing events, please give us some tips. What would be the best way to go about getting an event started? Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

why the name change?

I can say this if you have a scca track around or other road coarse, and directly aproach he/she about said event(s),but have a damn plan that includes a 3 strike rule about going off on the grass,no pit drifting or anywhere except the track, helmet, money they will be making. All in all, just be very profesional about it,speak english ,not alot of slang. I think if you can show a list of interested persons they may see the light, but dont bother them too much or get your hopes too high or it will be a complete shut down I know.

umm I personally have not tried YET! but I do know some fellows that might be able to point you in the right direction. lmk if you want to contact them or something...

Let me help the best I can

I organize events in arizona and have been around organized drifting here since the beginning of it about 4 or 5 years ago.

getting started: it all depends on what you have access to. its VERY VERY VERY hard to do it alone with no experience. meaning if you havent organized or been around many organized events you wont know what to do or what you need to do it the right way.

your FIRST priority is finding a place to do it!!! talk to racetracks in your area. our first events in AZ were held at a paved circle track here in tucson and while we look back and realize we have 10x better facilities available to us now, everyone needs to start somewhere.

check for local organizations (not autocross groups, they dont like drifting.) look into NASA-type organizations that do road course events. http://www.nasaproracing.com

if there are none, your gonna have to do it yourself. id love to help however i can so just keep posting in here and ill pass along all the advice i can.

Thanks a lot for the link and helpful information.Apparently some local promoters who put on drag races and car shows are considering putting on a drift event to bring in a bigger crowd, they're willing to talk to the local drifters about how it should be set up, so I guess we'll see what comes out of that.
