I'm trying to replace the fuel pump/filter on my daughters' '04 Quest, and i can't figure out how to get the back row seat to fold up and out of the way so I can get to the pump. I'm able to fold the seat back down onto the "seat", but I can't figure out how to release the horizontal bench so I can flip it up against the seat back. So far I've found a handle under the front of the seat in the horizontal section's center, the handle at the top of the back of the seat, and a strap that doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone tell me the trick to just flipping the horizontal seat section up and back? I sure didn't think this was going to take an hour, and definitely thought this would be one of the easy steps. Instead, I can't even get started because I can't raise the seat. Why is it always the simple stuff that stops me in my tracks?? Thanks for any help on this. Lee

I don't think there's a service panel on an '04. I don't recall any on the few gen3's where I've serviced the fuel system, and the FSM says to drop the tank.

Thanks, Vstar, but I finally figured it out. I didn't realize the whole seat flipped back into the cargo area. I was just trying to get the bench up and out of the way. But, yes, there is an access to the fuel pump under the carpet just behind the drivers side 2nd row captains chair. I had already found that on a youtube video (of course), but they didn't show how to roll the seat backwards, and then couldn't find anything else on it, till I realized I was in the wrong section of the manual. But it's there. Sure a lot better than dropping the tank, and pulling the 2nd row seats wasn't as bad as I expected. My biggest problem was that I couldn't get the hold-down ring off the pump with a hammer and brass rod, so I went to auto zone and borrowed their fuel pump tool kit and that made the difference. Anyway, it's in and it has straightened out the problem to a certain extent. It was idling pretty good until I decided to dump the seafoam and octane booster in. After that I could barely get it to start and it would die out pretty quick. Now it's back to idling ok, but when I rev it a bit, I'm hearing a pop that sounds like it's coming from the engine compartment, which I guess is an exhaust leak? I was floored when I looked through the exhaust system on these vehicles and found that they have 3 catalytic converters??? Bad idea!

A lot of Cali cars had 4 cats (even 5). :lolling:

Three is actually pretty standard these days. The ones on each bank are platinum-palladium and primarily handle HC and CO, while the rear one is heavy on rhodium to clean up NOx which the fronts let past.
