pull one of the lines off prefferebly the return line from the rack to the resivior. aim it toward a pan and fire up the car or have some one do it so you can continuosly add new fluid to the resivor. Pull out the screen in the resivor tank when you do this other wise the screen will slow the rate in which fluid will enter the system. The whole system holds about a quart so be preparred. You can use plain old ATF to refill it. Its an acceptable fluid for power steering. Just let the car runn till you see clean ATF coming out of the return line. This will go very fast so have you fluid ready to go when you do this. If you can keep up with it you will not have to bleed the system when your done. Also have your freind rotate the steering wheel a couple times while the car is runing. BTW you will have to cap off the return port on the resivor or you fluid will just pour out of there. It would also be wise to allow the fluid in the resivor drain off and add fresh fluid to it before you start.

I have a VERY similar question. My lines are leaking, so I am changing them out. I do NOT have Super HICAS. When removing the old lines (all with the car off, of course), do I need to do anything special to relieve the fluid pressure? Or can I just remove the lines? I couldn't find anything in the FSM on the matter.

The lines are only under pressure while the engine is running, when you pull the line it'll have about as much pressure as say draining the oil, just dont have the car very hot while doing it Learned that the hard way

thanks, so this isn't like the fuel system which IS under pressure when the car is off (unless the car has been sitting awhile)

yea as soon as the pump stops it has no pressure in the system. there are no check valves to hold the pressure.
