I recently changed my rotors to some aftermarket ones. The calipers are stock.

Here's the problem, the rotors have a larger surface area than what the calipers grab. Everytime I wash my car there's about a centimeter thick ring of rust that stays.

I've bought rust remover and it's working well but I've got to use it anytime my rotors get wet.

Is there anything I can use to keep the rust from getting on the part of my rotors that the calipers don't touch?

Why did you buy rotors that have a sewpt face that is larger than the pad width? That is problem number one.

The two ways to fix it are:

1. remove the rotors, remove the rust with a wire brush, tape off the contact area, paint with high temp paint or caliper paint.

2. buy rotors to fit your caliper/pad or buy new, larger calipers that use a wider pad.

I would suggest option 2. Reason...as your rotors wear, they will develop a groove. If you say you have a cm of untouched rotor, that's a lot.

Can you post a picture to show us just how much rotor face isn't touched?

What prompted the purchase of these rotors?
