Hello,

The air temp harness/connector on my 97 Q45 is broken at the connector point and so can't splice and re-connect because it's right where the wire meets the plastic. Is there a solution for this? I called the dealer and they're saying they gotta sell me the whole engine harness and my local pick a part doesn't have any Q45 this new only ancient ones...

Thanks,
Chris

If you can actually talk to a tech or find a really cool parts guy at your local dealership, they should admit to having a kit of factory Nissan/Infiniti terminals if bribed with the offer of a six-pack. You'll need to get the old terminals out of the connector (I have special tools for that, but a paperclip or small awl works) and then just crimp the terminals on and stick 'em in the empty connector!

An actual pic might help us know for sure what you're dealing with...

Your general advice/idea was pure genius!
I went up to this cool Service Advisor cat in a nice/patient manner and told him my problem of not being able to find this part anywhere without buying the entire harness and that my buddies (that's you) told me that Infiniti Technicians sometimes have extra parts like this lying around.
The dude was so cool he comes straight out and says "That's right man, we have a big a$$ box of these connectors in a recycle bin that we just collect "just in case" and end up throwing them away when we get too many so I just need you to leave the car here for an hour till I can grab a Tech and he can find some time to look through our massive collection of junk and we'll just cut it off for you at the right spot so you can just solder it in to your existing wire, and I'll just give it to you for FREE.
He indeed found a perfectly good connector and handed it to me, In case they're not allowed to take tips(or beer :) ), I sneaked a $10 into an envelope and told him the mail room came by and dropped this by his service desk and fell on the floor, of course when he opens it he'll see it's a $10 bill and understand it was my thank you note, anyways...

The Service Advisor informed me that the harness has to be "soldered" into the existing wire and NOT just twisted together due to the fact that it is a resistance wire, etc...He said I must find someone that knows how to do it right and not to F it up. Of course I don't want Dealer to do it cuz he admitted that he has to charge $120 through his system and no less.

Who/where/what type of place can I go to solder something like this and have it done right? Apparently there's a lot of Technicians who don't even know that resistance wires have to be soldered and not twisted together becuase this guy that does my oil changes just wanted to twist it together but definitely not going there especially not after I put such an effort at finding this beautiful replacement connector...

Any automotive electrical specialist shop can do it, and probably for around $50. Just look in the yellow pages under "Automotive-Electrical" and call around.

Your welcome! It's always nice to know you're appreciated... :woot:

Awesome! If you can find any "old school" shops that deal with electronics in your area - TV repair, electronics repair, etc. they should be able to solder it up and wrap everything with some heat shrink tubing in 10 or 15 minutes.

I took it to Brea Electric in Brea, CA and the guy didn't even use the harness I brought him, he dis-assembled the existing harness' internal guts, soldered the existing fresh wire to the metal clips that were inside the existing harness, even put the tubing all around to make it cool and only charged $25, wow!
