I have a 96 maxima that I believe has a fuel leak. I can smell it primarily when I turn the cabin heater on and it is venting in outside air. I have looked at the fuel lines, hoses, filter, around the injectors that I am able to see, and see nothing wet. I have even had the car running, and looked/sniffed around in there, and still am unable to locate the source. A couple times while sniffing around I got a whiff, but then I was not able to pinpoint it. Any suggestions?

Welcome to NICO.

The fuel feed and return lines both run on the driver's side of the engine bay. Be sure to trace both lines, checking for leaks.

In order for the smell of gas to get inside the HVAC (through the cowl duct), I would suspect the leak to be along the fire wall, in either the feed or return line connections from the rubber line to steel, or the fuel filter.

My 1998 maxima was leaking fuel in cold weather when it firststarted up. After it warmed up, it quit leaking fuel.

My mechaninc changed the fuel filter and it quit leaking.Never figured out exactly why it was leaking.
