Hello, my name is Thi. I'm new near :) and have an eager question. I'm a 1st year apprenticipe and saving money for university:D . My "LIFE" project would be converting a 1991 240 to a s14 and looks like a s15. I'm interested in drifting and did some research on the sr20det engine. The engine is capable of producing around 500-600 hp i think. My first question is, will the engine pass the Iowa emission test? If not then why and how can i make it pass? 2nd - what are ways to eliminate turbo lag on the engine while it has around 300 hp?

Well, that's all for now. :rolleyes i feel like i'm asking stupid question:thinker . Thank you for your time. Bye

I can't answer question # 1 since I don't live in Iowa. To answer question # 2, nitrous, stroker kit, standalone computer, and head work will help eliminate turbo lag. Nitrous would be the cheapest and quickest way to get rid of lag though.

Nitrous seems to be an very good idea. But i'm more of a drifter so how should nitrous be setup?

I wouldn't put nitrous in a drift car. I would recommend head work and lots of tuning.

Tein, HKS, ZEAL, JIC Magic, etc. HKS makes a coilover kit specifically for drift applications. It's the HKS HyperMax - D.

Work and women have been eating my time up alot lately. The gains from a built head depend on what mods you have. You will see more gains when using a larger turbo. I'm not for sure but I don't think you will get to 300 HP using the stock turbo.

There are no emissions tests in Iowa, you can do anything you want here.

The modified crank comes in the stroker kits. JUN makes one that you can buy without the whole stroker kit though. There are a ton of companys that make aftermarket pistons and rods for the SR. About the women...this particular one doesn't spend all of my money or take alot of my time...I just like being around her so really I take up all of her time :)

Daunt - We just started getting emission tested where I live. I'm moving to Iowa ;)

Register your car in a different county, that way you don't have to do the emissions test, just drive like 30 minutes, head to their country registrar, and get yourself some new tags. : )

LOL, I never heard anything about emission test...Well, I lied. Whenever I do my research, people often say "blah" will pass the emission test...blah blah blah...I never had to do any emission test, where I live, which is MN. I'm just lucky that I don't have to do it huh? Not lucky enough to have a car to do it, thanks thieves.

AznRide you live in MN? I live up in St Cloud. What car of yours got stolen? I'm looking for a late model 240sx myself. Just have to sell my 2000 Prelude first. Later... Oh and please, no S&$T about converting guys. The Prelude community is pretty cool over there at preludeonline.com. :)

It appears all 3 of us are from MN. I'm looking to find a non-running 89-91 240sx if either of you know of any in the area. I'm just starting to get into cars, so i have limited knowledge so far.
