Okay, coming from VW and BMWs, this is my first Nissan NAV system and i just like to start a thread on tips/tricks for our NAV system.

few things i still can't figure out.- Can you search by a name of the place? Example, if i'm looking for the postal office, can I just say "Nearby Postal Office?" How about "Nearby Chili's Restaurant" or even "Nearby Chinese Restaurant"?Just seems our NAV is very limited on what it can find. What's up with the only 5 search results? anytime I search for nearby restaurant, it only shows me 5... am I doing something wrong?

- I do love the search by phone number option, i now look up all the restaurants using my iphone then lookup their phone number and try to locate it via phone number, works 90% of the time.

- I am thinking of hacking the NAV system, will it give me more functions? or is this just the limit of Nissan NAV system.....

Please keep this thread... post it if you have any tips or suggestion on how to effectively use our NAV system.

What M do you have?

I have had no issues with looking up places with a POI search, same as with Lexus and other Japanese cars. Very simple to do. Typically you can just slap in a phone number and you're good to go.

Also, you can use your iPhone to find an address and drop it into the nav and voila, all done I do this with the Street info all the time.

Also, you get more than 5 hits, you just have to scroll up and down to see the additional addresses. Always make sure the right city is selected else the number of hits can be a little outrageous.

the search brings 5 up at a time, you can keep scrolling and it will bring up the next 5 according to proximity. One thing to make sure is that you are in the correct region. I live on the KY/IN state border and they are different regions. I have had no problems searching for Chinese restaurants etc. Also, if you have an old NAV DVD some of the new restaurants won't be on there.

"while moving" is the key term, and yes this requires the hack (which would probably void your display/ nav warranty). When stopped you can definitely search by name, just select the city, state, then enter the name of the establishment. I have had mixed results with this function personally...

Does anyone have "the hack" for the 08M's.....the wiring for the nav unit is different than the 06/07 M's.

If you've done the NAV Hack, you can do this at anytime.

If you have not done the NAV Hack, the car must be stopped.

1) Press destinantions.2) select POI (points of interest)3) You see name on top. press the arrow up and press enter.4) enter the name of what your looking for.

For best results enter the city prior to the entering the name of the place your looking for.

I thought all the newer M's with Navigation had a touch-screen?

Am I mistaken?
