Im having clearance issues with trying to put an sr20det(with the trans) in a 91 fastback. I have maybe about and inch to a inch and a half for the motor mount to fit into the chasis(the motor is attached with the motor mount already) So which way is easiest for you guys. Also the car itself isn't jacked up and its sitting on stock springs. Should I jack it up and take off the motor mounts or....lmk

I would suggest taking off the motor mounts. Thats how I had to do it both times...

Yeah definitely take the motor mounts off, i hate doing motor installs with the transmission attached personally. If you must, definitely take the engine mounts off the engine and put them onto the crossmember with the nuts on very loose then lower the motor down.

i find that if you at least jack the front on jack stands as high as you can, that its not that hard to get the engine in or out with the transmission on, was a piece of cake for me

Thanks for the response guys.....I actually got it in :)....I jacked the transmission so it would be leveled with the car then muscled the motor into place :) BUT i think i would have had an easier time if i did take the motor mounts off :gapteeth:
