Im pretty new to this car. I was wondering if someone knows how to make the car start with the VDC OFF (traction control) I really dislike not being able to control the car however I want.

Thanks a lot

What will your insurance company say - not telling them is insurance fraud? If you get into a serious accident will they cover you after modifying the safety aspects of the vehicle?

The equivalent of turning off ABS or removing/disabling air bags.

Your coverage and rate assumes the vehicle is as manufactured.

Trust me, leave it on...its saved my butt a few times! You can always disable it to play around. What I'd be interested in doing is to move the switch to the steering wheel or shifter.

The functioning of VDC is integrated in the design of the vehicle. It just might save your butt when you least expect it.Unless you have the reflexes and experience of a seasoned race driver, it is unlikely anyone could react and correct a car out of control under different conditions and get it right each time. Having the override on the wheel would be nice though.

It's doubtful they can deny the claim based on that. Hell, I doubt they'll ever ask. Realistically, a claims adjuster won't give a crap about it. And if they did find out, at most, they would probably let underwriting know. That's not to say underwriting will even do anything about it. It might become an issue if accident reconstruction would become necessary.

I have heard of some people that designed a relay to turn off the VDC everytime you started the car(essentially presses the button for you). This allowed you to turn it back on if necessary. You may be able to pull a fuse somewhere, but it might affect the ABS, which remains operational if you were to just press the VDC Off button.

moving it to an easier to access-quickly position is on my list of things to do...just not a big priority.

I dont want to totally discconect it, the problem is that Im always autocrossing or something so it gets a little annoying having to turn it off everytime I start the car.. I wanted to know if anyone knew a way of turn it it off until you decide to use it again. If not yeah.. i'll probably put it in a better position.

Thanks

Well you gotta start the car every time, why not turn the vdc off everytime. I always turn it off, but today it was raining hard on my way home from work and I looked at the vdc button and thought to myself.......

its the traction control, when the light is off it means its active, when the light is on (VDC OFF) means its off... That means that you can make your car oversteer and have a little fun

so when the light is on ( traction control is off)...does it mean the car can drift in the rain or something like that whenever if i'd try to...?

Yes, if the VDC is off, the only active safety devices are the anti-lock brakes and of course the airbags. You will be able to slide the car around and spin the rear tires to your heart's content.

If you have never driven a car beyond it's limits then leave it on

If you feel comfortable with the rear kicking out and paying $800 for tires every few months then turn it off (like me)

I would assume that the VDC switch is a momentary switch (doesn't latch) that sends a ground pulse to the ECU. You could probably add a relay that would send the ground pulse to the ECU each time you start the car. Then you would have to press the button to turn the VDC on instead of off...

Just a theory....

In rainy weather in my M45, leaving the VDC on has saved my butt on a few occasions. I would recommend just getting used to turning it off whenever you get in to the car.

They have a module that memorizes the last setting (on or off) for the VDC. Try that.

Im new to the forum, I got my g35 a month ago. Today I reached 1300 miles, so I unleashed the power & turned off VDC. I do prefer it turned off but I'm worried it'll do damage to the car, I mean the manual reads to leave it on. I need some kind of reassurance pleeaase! Im really gonna have some fun w/VDC off!

There is nothing wrong with leaving it off for fun driving moments. However, if you are not tossing the car around hard, then it really does not get in your way per se.

As I said in one post, it really makes a difference in rain ... has saved me on a couple of occasions from doing something silly.

Thanx for the reply z...we'll do just that, when necessary turn off that VDC. Save me my tires & engine stress that way.

I'll let you guys know if there's a difference in gas mileage with VDC off, I'll try next week. Ok now enjoy that turkey

I put my VDC swich in my center console by just extending the wires and cutting a new hole for the switch. Now I can hit it with the base of my right hand while I am shifting. That way I can turn it off during first and second gear and turn it on while in third.

I can only briefly break the tires loose in third and one time I did it on a 4-5 shift on slick concrete. But that is the exception not the norm.

BTW, 75k mile on my car. So, a little exerience in driving this thing hard.

Push the button when you need to. Otherwise, leaver alone, it'll save yer *** someday. This is annoying big-brother technology, this is smart stuff, smarter than any one of us. Just push the button when you need to.

Do you have a pic of the set-up?

When you turn it off it will be noted in the air bag ecu noneraseable memory. If you have an accident where the air bags deploy, don't be surprised that it may be brought up against you in court.......assumming the accident was significant enough for the reconstruction team to confiscate your cars computers from impound.

Members of the jury here is proof that the driver was operating in a negligent manner.........his speed, no VDC, entire history 5 secs before bag deployment......"soon comes there were alcoholic and weed vapors inside the cabin prior to impact"
