No, no seperate bulb. When you let the hand brake down, the DRL's kick in, and don't go off until you turn the car off. The DRL's run the high beam part of the 9004 bulb, at half power.
I could cut the wire from the hand brake to the DTRL relay, but I think that would make the brake light come in the dash, and of course if something in your brakes failed, you wouldn't know it. I can't believe they made such and advanced system in a car that old. In my 2001 Golf I had, all you had to do was put a piece of tape over one connctor and thats it
