How to detect oil consumption issues with 2002+ Q45s

I have had some interest in the 2002+ Q45s, but I am somewhat concerned with the oil consumption issue. Is there any easy ways to detect this is an issue with the car besides noticing the oil level is low? Also for the cars with replacement engines, did they actually fix the issue?

Check dealer records for documentation on oil consumption tests being conducted on the particular car you are interested in. Replacement engines were identical to the original, so it is a crapshoot at best.some burn oil, some dont. Problem was NEVER fixed,unlike what some say,and issue remained right on thru the final 2006 model year Q, and even later year m45 models.
