You will need to pull the transmission in order to remove the EGR and plug the DS exhaust manifold. You'll probably need a die grinder to cut the EGR tube connected to the exhaust manifold as there are some water lines to get around. While the transmission is out you can install downpipes also and upgrade your clutch/flywheel and clutch pivot ball.

i deleted mine while the engine was still in the car and it was not very hard. i used the write up that they made with the engine out, its the same except your working in the engine bay. why are you going to delete it? if it works i wouldnt mess with it there isnt a gain except a few less wires and pipes in there.

You should check the EGR solenoid connector first. It may just be corroded and not making contact as that's the only way (or wiring or the solenoid failed) that the ECU knows there is a problem with it.

It's not only difficult because of the trans in the way to get to the exhaust feed tube, but the tubes under the plenum each side near the front are also a PITA with the plenum in place as they run underneath it and around the rear corners to the EGR itself.

This is what I did with my newer 300,

First - remove intake plenumSecond - cut each side of the egr pipes going into intake manifold about 3 inches from the point just outside the manifold.Third - crimp both pipes at the end as closed as possible, you will need to get a descent pair of pliers to do this. Fourth - apply CarGo ThermoSteel High-temp metal repair to both the crimp ends. You may have to apply multiple coats in order to seal it up properly.Fifth - Take egr cut ends to weld shop and have welded closed.

You can pick up the ThermoSteel stuff at advanced auto for not very much, make sure that it has the 2400F temp rating on it.

The best time to do this is over the weekend, I was able to get my car running within a day of doing so.

Good Luck!

You don't need to remove the engine or transmission to delete the EGR.......
