I have a small chip in the middle of my windshield when a rock hit it on the highway about 3 weeks ago. Its about the size of half of a nickel. I went to this local glass place and they said they have to charge a flat rate of $70. He also mentioned that safelight now charges about $120 to fix chips. Whether that is true or not, that is a bit expensive. I was thinking like $40. Now Im not trying to be a cheapa$$ or anything and I will pay that if I have to, but I dont wanna spend that much if I dont have to. I know my friend used a fix-it set from Walmart and he said it worked fine, but that kind of stuff always makes me nervous. Any other recommendations? I really dont want it to start cracking and spreading around, especially in the colder weather.

you might want to double check your insurance policy. Some policies cover windshield chip repairs.

^+1, deductable-free mind you

Also, the do it yourself kits work pretty well. I've had the best luck with the screw-type injectors. Screw pressure is huge, so it forces that ish all up in the crack. $70 is pretty outrageous for a chip repair.

I saw the one that my friend did on his and I gotta say it looked pretty good. It was barely visible, although I am not concerned if I can see it or not, I just dont want it to spread.

Not sure about insurance but good thats a good thought. I just have Allstate liability btw, but I will look into that. If not then I guess I will check out the $20 fix it yourself stuff, I really dont wanna spend $75 on a freakin chip fix when I can get a new one for ~$120. Then again Id rather not spend that either if I dont have to
