Hey guys. I was cleaning my polished valve cover the other day with some mother's. First thing first, the engine bay wasn't completely cooled down yet. I put the mothers cream on and waited for it to dry while I spoke to a neighbor. When I was done, I realized that the cream kind of dried into the finish. I'm thinking because engine was still warm. Does anyone know what I can do to take that off? Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

OOPS!

Gonna need to re-polish it.

Get a buffing wheel and some Mother's (or I prefer a product called "Metal Gloss" which you can buy online) and go at it.

Probably a ton easier if you just remove the VC to do it.

By buffing wheel do you mean something like an orbital buffer? Just trying to make sure. thanks.

No, you'll want to use a cotton wheel. Looks like disks of fabric, stacked and stitched, that you can attach to the end of a drill.

Home Depot usually has the entire kit, I think it's like $12.

Might wanna buy 2 wheels, as it'll get real nasty. Keep in mind that the blacker the wheel gets, the better it's working - the black is actually ALoxide, which is a great polishing agent.

Periodically, as you're polishing, run the cotton wheel against a sharp edge (like the edge of a spare piece of wood or a metal file) to "fluff" it up.
