sorry to kind of dig this up:

I had to lol at some of the posts:

first: "do this to clean the IACV"

second: "I did that and now my car wont start!"

I now it sounds terrible to laugh at that, but it is certainly funny.

I do, however, agree that this is a totally legitimate way to clean the IACV and, in fact, any intake components.

hell, the guys at G-Dimension started up my blacktop clip with carb cleaner.

I agree that if your car wont start: you probably had a huge buildup, and the clog has now moved around or you messed up the screw (either damaged it or screwed it in improperly).

I mean: think about the mechanics of the situation. really the only possibility is that you have little chunks of crap that basically moved into some internal opening that prevents air from moving.

or the screw is loose (cracked or not fully screwed in).

great post first of all. I have been wanting to do this for a while now, but the plastic screw in the IACV is all stripped out like someone used a tiny screw driver.

Does anyone know where i can get a new one of those without replacing the whole IACV or just what thread pitch it is so i can get a metal one?

Thanks

Great post, helped solve my problems.

Just a quick addition though... If your car isn't starting after you do this it's because you flooded your motor. Simply take out the EGI relays and crank the motor over for 10 seconds. Put the fuses back in and it should start up. (although it will have a very rough idle while the rest of the carb cleaner goes through) If you used a lot of the can then this very well could be the reason your car did not start.

FYI: I was told that the carb cleaner will destroy the IACV over time, so instead use MAF cleaner.

My car didn't start at first, well it did when I gave it gas but it was extremely rough, I took out the EGI relays and it started right up actually, it was rough for a couple seconds then gradually evened out. Now it runs great, there was a noticeable difference on acceleration smoothness as well. Thanks.
