Ok after three days of PURE torture ..lol..I have finally gotten a new clutch disc in my car...Now I need to know how to check the clutch pedal height and free play on my 83 280zx. I have gotten some manuals regarding the clutch..but NONE of them say a word on how to check the clutch pedal height and free play. If anyone out there knows please fill me in...totally clueless and all my internet searches have come up with zilch.

It might be listed in the service manual: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/280z/. I know there only earlier years are listed but it might still apply to your car.

basically you want the clevis loose ont he pedeal, with no preload or compression, there are specifics as to adjusting pedal height but these cars tend to use every bit of pedal alotted, zero the pedal and it should work fine
