If you wish to simply check your timing you dont need to unplug anything, you just your car reach operating Temperature and hook the timing gun to a loop there should be right behind your engine close to the last coil pack plug.

If you want to set it, you must drop your rpms to about 750 and unplug your TPS. point the gun towards your crank pulley Im pretty sure you'll see the marks.

Yes the CAS adjust timing like a distibutor, while pointing the light at the crank start moving the CAS up and down you will see the lines jump back and forth.

It should be set at the second mark from the driver's side that would be 15 degress BTDC.

hope this Helps

forgot to mention plug the TPS once you have set your timing then get your revolutions back to where you had them.

Yeah, I never understood the spark plug trick. I am not king of ghetto rigging stuff. I just looked through the FSM for the timing procedure a few weeks back to find out about the black loop on the coil pack harness.
