I just bought a used 97 nissan maxima SE with manual transmi.

Gear-shift knob leather is very dirty and looks bad, so i'd like to replace it by my self without spending lots of money @ dealer shop.

I can easily purchase pretty new knob in close auto accessory shop from my town, but then i don't know how to take current knob out of it.

I think most knob usually possible to hold it tight and twist it left to release/separate it from the main shift bar (like screw), but it doesn't look like it's hooked up like screw,

can please someone help me how i can take it out?? Thanks

Welcome to NICO and congrats on the purchase.

A pair of pliars and a bit of muscle. It's glued on the threads so don't give up too soon.

Thanks for quick reply.

I think the gaer shift bar and leather facotry knob is skidding itself.Even i hardly tried to twist it left, only the leather knob is spinning itself, not the whole knob.

Do you think if i will change it, i can probably cut off the current leather knoband then try to twist it with tools?

I'm stocked! haha..sorry for silly questions

That sounds like it should work, just be sure not to cut too deep into the shift knob.
