Can anyone provide tips on this. I have looked at it, and read the manual. Dont want to tear the thing in half and break it...

What year?

Go buy CR 2025 battery, get lithium if available.Remove Key with slide switch.Use small phillips head on small screw, open back of remote. Remove internal electronic unit and do not lose the small chip built into the outer case.Pry open internal module using tabs to reveal battery. Pry up batttery & replace with new. Inset battery + side down.Re-assemble. Have adult beverage of your choice.

+1 - its quite simple actually. You won't break the thing, it's pretty sturdy. There are pictures in the manual too.
