Are the u-joints in a stock 240 driveshaft pressed in? it looks like it has some kind of lock ring that was forced in or something, i am not sure how it comes apart. just looking for some advice. this is for my project car not for just replacing it.

it look like the stock corolla driveshaft u-joint is the same so im going to try to see if i can use the whole 240 shaft with the corolla rear end yoke.

Nissan told me the shaft and U-joint is an assembly. now they told me the same thing about my lower control arm and ball joint and that was BS so check if you can get the U-joint alone before you start ripping it apart.

well i already looked it up and you can buy them but what it looks like is they use a machine to cut the outter edge of the flange and driveshaft ears to fold some of the metal in and hold the u-joint there. kind of messed up. i think i can get someone to press them out and the new one comes with clips. so we will see im going to try to order or buy one tomorrow to see.

I have not looked at it, but I agree with TMS. Nissan calls the front LCA bushings and ball joints non servicable because they are a PAIN IN THE EVER LOVING A$$ to get out (took me 9 hours to do both bushings and ball joints last week). It is cheaper to change the LCA than the bush or ball (HA!).

Advance Auto rents the tool to press out the U-joint, but it is $149.89 to rent. Good thing I got to take one home for free...

the problem is, on nissan driveshafts, they are not setup up for replaceabel u joints.

they actually distort the metal around them to hold them in.
