As far as I know there isn't a How-To on changing the serpentine belts but I had a thread that pretty much explained how to do it but I don't know the address to that thread and with search being buggy I can't find it.

It's really simple to do. Start by removing the black plastic skid plate. Looking up from under the vehicle at the belts you will see two belt tensioners (one for each belt). First you want to loosen the nut on he front of the tensioner pulley, just loosen it, don't back the bolt all the way off. Now you want to start backing out the bolt on the bottom of the tensioner bracket, this bolt may be a little stubborn and a little squeaky. As you turn that bolt counter-clockwise you will see the tensioner pulley start coming down and loosening the belt. Once you have it loose enough to remove it just pull the belt off. The alternator/fan belt will need to go around the fan in order to be removed and replaced. Also, remove the alternator/fan belt first and then the A/C compressor belt second. Replace the A/C compressor belt first and then the alternator/fan belt second. When you replace the belts, just make sure they are routed properly and then you want to start tightening the tensioner bracket bolt until the belt is tensioned properly. Once it is tensioned, tighten the nut on the front of the tensioner pulley.

This job should take you no more than 20mins. to complete; here's some pics to help you with locations and whatnot.

i would never use belt dressing on new belts.

what do you mean the car won't turn over? even a super tight serpentine belt will not prohibit a car from turning over. what else did you mess with? maybe you forgot to reconnect something, or blew a fuse?

you want the belt pretty tight. it should only have a bit of give to it when you press against it with your fingers. if squealing is belt slip, then tighten it some more. if the squealing is a bad bearing, then you need to replace the bearing(s) in the culprit pulley(s).

I got her fixed :). Took it off and sprayed the belt with dressing. Put it back and no more squealing. Actually tightening the belt tight will make it very hard to turn over. its okay know problem is solved.

tell us the truth. what did you fix? the belt will snap and/or the tensioner will break before you can tighten it so much that the engine will not turn over.

Have to agree with Alex here. I've never heard of an engine not turning over because a belt was too tight.
Makes me wonder what else is wrong.

Alex may not trust you, but if it happened, then I believe you.
BTW, I had my belt changed last summer, and now it's squealing like hell.
In the next week or two I plan on adjusting/fixing it. I'll let you know how it goes.

no matter how awesome the VQ35 is, it still can not defy the laws of physics.
