well **** dude im just sharing my experience on the subject. ive had different sorts of oil filter relocation and cooler setups on my car so id say i am a useful source of information on the subject. before everyone goes out and spends 300 bucks buying a bunch of stuff thats not for the application, i thought id show a way to do it with ~ 150$ worth of used parts. obviously not everyone is cool with using used parts which is cool with me im just giving more options. as i said im not hating i was just adding more information about oil cooler setups. i dont know how i couldve possibly made my post any less agressive.

any one ever think of putting a cooler inbetween the engine and turbo? just a baby one for the turbo. or maybe even one inbetween the turbo the engine and another big one for the engine. idk abotu kat's but on sr's im pretty sure the feed line goes across the back of the engine, making it easy to tap off of that and put a cooler around back by the intake plenum maybe down by the frame area, it doesnt need air flow over it necessarily, radiation will do alot of the work, maybe even a small fan. it would make the turbo last longer and be more efficient. hows that sound??

that would be useless, if you are running an oil cooler the oil is already going to be cooled when it is pushed through the feed line, its not going to pick up a significant amount of heat when it moves like 2 feet from the engine to the center cartridge. if you want the oil to be cooler going to the turbo just get a bigger engine cooler.

yea, but the oil comes out of the engine, which is where the heat is comming from...

dude you just posted exactly the same thing

no nobody puts oil coolers in the feed line, that would be stupid as i just said, if your center cartridge is too hot (which it isnt) get a bigger oil cooler.

I'd put this between the engine and the feed/return plate.

Thanks. Still running it all these years later. There are ways to make it better, but I am happy with it.

The GReddy one has ports for oil cooler lines and gauges, so essentially you could skip the strut tower mounting plate and just mount the filter off that plate and run lines to a cooler element. The one I posted is a sandwich plate that would primarily be used for the addition of gauge ports, and would be mounted under the block side plate in my write up.

Very cool. Gotta appreciate your resourcefulness. Possibly this make a trans oil cooler as well?

nice write up

noob question: do you have to add more oil when you change it? i mean you are making more passages for the oil to travel through, would that dictate adding a bit more or would that **** it up?

i get how they work, its just me thinking out loud

so the one u posted has 3 ports right

2 for gauges and 1 for the return line..

same with what i posted, just in a different area

DALAZ_68:Well, I would use 1 of the smaller ones for oil pressure, 1 for temp and block 1 off to use with my write up. The GReddy one you posted as 2 large ports for cooler lines and 2 smaller for gauges.

Fancy_Footwork:A trans cooler for a M/T would require an external pump. Not really a necessary addition for the power levels I am running.

hbpignosePA:And yes, more oil is needed. Some simple volume calculations from the 8th grade (volume of a cylinder), plus filling the cooler with fluid will get you a ball park in the new liquid volume. My CA runs ~3.3q factory, and I run 4.5q now.

but you see what im saying, would you ever consider putting ebay parts on your motor?

workmanship, metal density, pressure/tolerance... cheap sh*t breaks.

....but I think you understand

the question wasnt directed to the type, more of configuration as Rico graciously posted ...thank you rico

How did you clean the lines after you cut them? Or did you just start up the car and change the oil soon after?
