How to build console/panel for around stick shift and radio and heater control?

Thief took it with radio and shift knob and boot. WOuld a wood one look good? what type of wood? Is there any better material? the junk yards seem to want an arm and leg for it.

also, what is the be method of attaching bumper moudings to car that are coming unglued? thanks.
