This really means nothing.

Think for a minute: if you factor in the time it took to manufacture the pre-fabricated sections before the final build-up, it's gonna be about the same. And similar waste products from the assembly process too. What a scam.

Dattebayo: You are exactly right. I used to work in the prefabricated panel business as a Project Manager.

First of all, they ASSEMBLED a hotel in 15 days. Like was said, add the time it took to build the sections and it's probably nowhere near as impressive, if at all.

Secondly,
"As the United States and China battle over the finer points of currency manipulation at the G-20 summit, American negotiators may want to take note of this startling testimonial to the productivity of Chinese workers: A construction crew in the south-central Chinese city of Changsha has completed a 15-story hotel in just six days. If nothing else, this remarkable achievement will stoke further complaints from American economic pundits that China's economy is far more accomplished than ours in tending to such basics as construction."

Hooray for people who don't understand s*** running their mouths. I bet tons of uninformed Americans start citing this as how we are "behind the times' and need to be progressive without worrying about being right.

Thirdly, we all know that China is VERY lax with construction and safety standards. Anyone remember the garbage bag bridge?

Still impressive. 6 days of assembly > 2 years of construction in the middle of the city (producing traffic).

Just because it was put up in 6 days doesn't mean it has bad construction. It could, in fact mean that the Chinese just found (or implemented) a better way of constructing a building.

I bet people were saying the same thing about the hoover dam when it got built. "No way you can build something that big and complex in 4 some odd years and have it be quality". But no, the dude spearheading it developed new ways of transporting and pouring concrete (as well as tunneling and a bunch of other construction techniques) that enabled him/ the labor force to do a better job, faster.

:werd: Look at Vegas. The same hotel has been sitting for over two years, half finished, waiting for money that will never show up.

I would like to revisit the site in a year, see how well the building has held up and if there have been any issues with it.
