Hey Guys,

I just purchased a 2009 G37 Sport Coupe. What is the proper way to break in the new engine. I picked it up with only 11 miles on it.

The sales person at the dealer and the car user book said to drive it under 4,000 rpm's for 1,200 miles and change the oil for the first time at 3,750 miles. They said the factory uses a special oil that comes with the car and they want it to stay in for that long.

I thought to break the engine in you wanted to change the oil earlier.

What can you tell me?

What is the best oil to use?

Any other tips?

Thanks,

Geoff

Breaking it in is pretty much what the salesperson person told you. Under 4000 RPM for 1200 miles, no cruise control. You also don't want to keep a constant speed all the time.

Some people like to change their oil after the 1200 mile period, then again at the 3750 mark. With the new Gs though, Infiniti has been trying to get people to use their ester oil. Not sure if this is what you have in the car right now. I personally went all the way to the 3750 mark if I remember right. That was a couple of years ago, would have to pull out the records for that one.

Congrats on the purchase. Now just post up some pics!

You might want to buy some break in oil to do the first change at 1200 miles..

I'd do what the service technicians recommend. After that initial 1200 I would make sure to get a broad range of RPMs to make sure you get it fully broken in.

Bought my '08 back in September and I was also told to make first oil change at 3750. However, my '04 maxima was at 1000miles.

Just rip it all over the place... floor it and redline it, repeat

Baby it for the first 1,000 miles then drive it how you will normally drive it.
