So I decided to black out the rear decals on my 2002 Pathfinder LE. I didn't want to paint them Black permanently just incase there was a mistake during painting. I also didn't want to remove the badges from my Truck. So I used Plasti-Dip. Worked amazing!

Things needed:
-Lots of Newspaper
-Green Painters Tape
-Your color choice of Plasti-Dip (White, Black and some neon colours)
-Time
-Preferably Dawn soap (Due to the de-greasing agent)

Start off by cleaning the surface around the Badges. Clean in between the letters very good. Use some warm water and a soap with a degreasing agent. Wipe it dry with a micro-fiber cloth. Tape a square off around the badges. Plasti-dip wont stick on paint so taping off each letter is not necessary.

It should look something like this:

Once your all taped off you can go ahead and start off with your first coat. Your first coat should only be light, The second and third will be the heavy coats. Let it dry 10-15 Mins for the first and second coat and a good 20-25 for the third heavy coat.

Once it has dried it will peel off the paint like this, It will not come off the Badge itself. If you messed up you can take something sharp and get under the coating on the badge itself and peel it off.

If you choose to do all of the badges tape them off like you did all the others. On the "Pathfinder" Badge you may notice some flaking chrome coating in between the smaller openings in the letters. Try and remove most of it and clean the dirt out the best you can.

I was really impressed with the outcome. The finish is a nice smooth rubber-like coating. It made all of the Badges stick out much more than the regular chrome. It definitely will look different on some colors. On Silver, White or the light Gold color it would look amazing.

Just to see I tried to get it off the LE...It wasn't budging without some force. I see people paint their rims with this stuff so it is quite durable. And Thanks!

just a suggestion, maybe try sanding the chrome a little bit with like a 1500 grit or 2000 grit sandpaper before hand

Looks good. While looking through the pics I noticed the rear wiper arm could use some of that plasti-dip. I wonder if it will work on that?

Plastidip is pretty stout stuff, I painted my rockers with it to see what it would look like and it held up well until I scraped some rocks on it then it looked bad so I just took it off and sprayed it with bedliner.

Here is a video of plastidipped rockers with a pressure washer nozzle, stuff held up great

Y'know, that black plastic/rubber liner right under the LE under the trunk door, mine is a bright GREY and I tried waxing it, after some sun it was grey again. Would Plasti-dip work on it? And I'm thinking of doing this to my front end, to do or not to do? It's all scratched up anyways...and if I don't like it I can peel it off right?
