Hi all. I just replaced the serp belt on my 2002 QX4 with a factory belt I got at the dealership. At first it squeeked real loud, so I tightened the belt further - a few times - until the noise stopped. Finally the noise has stopped. However, I had to tighten the belt really tight and now there is not much play if any in it (by contrast, the A/C belt is not nearly as tight). Can anyone tell me if it's possible to over-tighten this belt; and if so, how will I know and what could happen if the belt is too tight? Thank you.

I just got all new belts on my pathy cause they were cracked and they squeeked when they got wet. My new ones squeek when i first start it and for a few minutes, but I had the guy at the shop down the road do it and he said they will do that till they break in. But they seem to be pretty tight.

if you made it crazy tight the belt can snap or you can screw up the bearings in the pulley
