The only people who have benefited from the "doctor's statements required" is the school system. The health care system is in the toilet, so they aren't benefiting from it. Parents get threatened with disciplinary action at work for being out. Kids are scared to death, so their stress level is escalated, not good.

What I want to know is what are the schools doing with the money? What the hell are they spending the money on? Textbooks? Nope. They can only afford one book per classroom. Paper? Nope, we pay for that too. Food? Nope, we pay a s*** ton for that. Salaries? Doubtful. Statistics show that teachers are notoriously underpaid. Extra-curricular activities? Nope, we have to pay extra for that.

So I ask, What good has it done? You sure as hell can't tell by looking at kids' grades. Attendance is not a direct reflection of intelligence. I know kids who could go to class only on test days, make an A and lay out the rest of the time. I know kids who go every single day and don't know their a** from apple butter.

The school system here at least has books for every child, even though some of the teachers don't teach from them. During school registration there are 3-4 lines that stretch out the door and 1-2 lines that only have 1-2 people in them at the most. The lines that stretch outside the school are for public assistance, free book assistance and free school lunch programs. The short ones are the ones where parents actually pay for everything themselves. Does make it easy for the wife to go through registration. Only takes her 10 minutes to fill in and write them a check whereas the others take 2-4 hours to get through all the lines.

You would not know a lot of these people are needing us to pay for their school books, lunches, etc. based upon the cars they drive, cell phones they are yapping or texting on or the jewelry they wear.

Operation "Clean Sweep" is the only thing that can save this country for the next generations. Think we have it bad? Wait till your kids have kids. We'll have things so F'd up by then...we'll be looking to Canada and Mexico for assistance.

I just think that it's messed up that the schools even got to this position. When I was in school, everyone had their own books and lunch cost a quarter. They didn't serve breakfast because kids got up early and ate before they came to school.

I still think it's a crying shame that the government is throwing billions in bailouts to corporations who blatantly mis-managed their business and ruined people' lives and yet my daughter can't have her own math book.

Tell the school you want her to have her own math book in Spanish and I bet they would get you one quickly

No kidding. I thought about ordering one off ebay, just so she could have one to do extra work and to have examples. And it really doesn't matter if it is the exact same one, the principles of math don't change. Just as long as it is on her grade level.

I tell you what. The more crap I see roll out of the public school system justifies people home-schooling their kids. And it's getting to be VERY affordable.

I do home school with my brothers and sisters. I'm fresh out of high school and my siblings need a real education so I decided to take it on. I've gone to a private school all my life but recently the private schools around here shut down cause everyone was going to home school.

So, if you're wondering why I don't post here very much now ya'all know why!

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm doing night college classes on the side, too.

That's a hell of a responsibility to undertake. Good for you! Have your siblings been to public schools or did they go to private schools like you did?

Bex, what classes is she taking? I went to a private hs and we had to buy our own books, and if i remember correctly, a bunch of them are still at my parent's house. They aren't in great shape and may have some "interesting" things written in them because most of them were used when I bought them.

Algebra 1 and Integrated Science 1 are the two that she really needs a text for reference. If you have either, i would be VEYR interested.

I went to a public school until second grade and then I went to a private school up til I graduated from high school. All of my students have never seen a public school. They've been to private schools for a few years and then home schooled for the last 3 years.

Found a chemistry book, but nothing else. My GF says she might have a few books as well, so we'll look for those this weekend. If your ever in need of physics or calculus, you can have your pick from what I have.
