try as I might, I cannot get comfortable in my 99 Q. The seat moves every which way, but I can't find a good position where my head doesn't hit the roof. I've had it since February. I should have paid more attention during the test drive, but that was only 10 minutes or so. And I was so busy checking everything out, I didn't really notice.

So, any tall guys out there have any tips? Love the car otherwise.

Also, when I push the re-circulating air button, the a/c actually becomes louder. Like another fan turned on. It's only becasue the car is so quiet that you can tell. Anyone ever notice this?

Last thing. Shifting from 1st to 2nd is kind of hard, much more noticeable than the rest of the gears. However, if I am accelerating fast, the shift from 1 to 2 is very smooth. Car has 102,000 mi. I took it to the Infiniti dealer for a 7500 mi service and everything checked out. Only had to do the front brakes and fan belts.

By the way, that wood trim looks a lot like plastic. Is there any difinitive answer on whether it is real wood or not?

Thanks,

David

I am 6'3" and I feel you on the comfort issue. Head space is not my issue its leg space. On long drives I get very uncomfrotable because I can not strech out my legs. My car is is 1994 Q45. I love it but for the size of the sedan is just seems to be missing room somewhere. Especially when I compare it to the wide body Benz in the early nineties like the 420 and 500.

I have been thinking of ways to have the seat on the driver side moved back. It was have to be a custom job..however the problem is the frame where the seat is bolted, it is molded for the seat track. Seat belts would also have to be considered.

Good luck with your Q.. Welcome to NICO.

Lower/upper leg or add a few inches to the cars roof surgery is a option as you appear to be taller than 99.6% of males in US.The average US is currently 5"9 1/8"I'm 5'8" the as designed height for the typical German

Netherlands 6'0"Since Japanese are 5'5" a waste to cater to the weight or height challenged [in either direction]. Just to sell a few cars. Screws up the ergonomics.

There should be special more expensive cars for those outside the norm. The BIG AND TALL Dealer.[

No your ok. A 5'7 woman can still wear 3" inch heals and not be taller.

Never have understood why airline tickets are not based on weight and luggage........finally they are going to charge for aisle and exit row seats.

Your volumetric/weight data would be stored in your FF number data base along with the semiannual weigh in test.

A constant reminder to lose weight.

I'm 6'2" and it fits me like a glove. I don't have the seat anywhere near all the way back either. Plenty of head room, it's just lovely.

Roughly, here's how I have my seat: back of bottom is all the way down, front, is almost all the way up (these are the seat height f&r), the seat back is leaned back a bit (nothing remotely close to the uber-gay "gangster" laying down and arching your neck to actually see anything), and steering wheel is all the way out, and almost all the way up - this gives me plenty of thigh room w/o hitting the bottom of the wheel. Elbows bent around 30 degrees w/ hands on 9 & 3, thumbs resting on top spokes of wheel.

My seat could (and does w/ auto exit) go back about 5 inches still.

I love auto exit. Great feature.

I sit pretty low into my car. (thats how I have the seat adjusted.) With the wheel in my lap basicly.

I really don't see how a taller person than me could be unconfortable. I have TONS of room to spare.

I will say that I am unhappy with my back seat room in the Y33. Hell, the G50 wasnt any better either.

im about 6'1"-6'2" (havent measured the entire thing recently ) and i have no problems in my Q... granted, only midgets could sit behind me but thats fine.....

Ive found the best way to have the seat is to to have the seat down as far as possible, maybe with the front of the seat tipped up a little, but not much... then you adjust the seat back so that you can feel the chair wiht your shoulder blades, then tilt it back just a little more... IVe found with this you sit as far back and into the chair as possible... I used to have the seat adjusted similar to how kevin has his, and i would get very edgy fast... you need ot adjust the seat to fit you, not adjust to how the seat is...

One interesting note with the 90-93 seats is that they seem to be more comfortable, but i think that the 94 seats are more comfortable but they require more "tuning" to find the groove...

Thanks all. I adjust the seat basically the same way. All the way down in back, slightly up in front, then adjust the back angle. This is the thing I constantly fiddle with. I have the lumbar support all the way in so I don't feel it at all. I hate that thing. I feel like I have plenty of leg room, just not head room. I had an idea about modifying the seat posts so it sits lower, but with all those motors, there is no clearance between the seat bottom and the floorboard.

Q45tech, I'll check out that website, it looks interesting. Don't get me started on airplane seats, clothing, etc, etc. Everything is just a little too small! Beign an engineer, I can understand how tradeoffs are made, but it is just so annoying. I'd gladly give up a couple of inches.

Tall, but how tall are your torsos? How long are your legs?

I have short legs but a long upper body, so I'm 5'8" but can barely reach the pedals in an Eldorado.

I am 6' and fit perfectly in the G50. FY33 has more room, but I bet 6'2" is the limit for good fit up front.

Don't you mean your HG50? Since you're hell bent on calling Y33's "FY33's" (was there ANY other Y33 chassis ever sold in the states? Oh right, NO).

i'm 6-1, have the seat all the way back and fit fine. in the bmw, however, even with the seat all the way back still feels a tad cramped. not horrible, but, i'd much rather drive the Q across country.

Wes was talking about general seat comfort - I was disappointed in the lateral support on the 94-96s ... 90-93s are better for that. I considered having the driver's bolsters reworked to bring them in tighter ...

But I do 14 hour days in mine on road trips and at the end of the day, no aches - nuthin' - I feel great!

'Course, I'm only 5' 10" but with the legs of a 6-footer - and still have an inch or so to move it back if needed, and the belts give me the lateral support I need. I can see how torso height could be an issue. I have the rear of the seat dropped all the way and the front raised enough to give support under my thighs. I also have the lumbar forward almost all the way - that helped a bunch for long-term comfort. Combined with the dropped rear, it cups snugly and gives me a few inches of headroom. (Only weigh 145, too - skinny guy)

EDIT: sigh, I gotta pay more attention to what people own - checksplay is talking about his Y33, not G50.

Ok, I'll wiegh in.........

6'3" 238# 35 inseam. The comment on torso height is a good one. I sold suits in college and I have seen a 6 ft r with 29- 35 inch inseams. A couple I know, he's 6 she's 5'9", when we go to dinner she sits almost taller than him.I will say that the O2 is accomodating, but if I was 6'5" I'd probably touch the sunroofed headliner. My Avalon (97) had way more head space, and front and back leg room, hell, I could sit behind myself and cross my legs......BUT I don't 'want' an Avalon...lol!!!!!My 79 RX 7 had a ton of leg room...even regular driving I had about 1 1/2 to go on the seat track. I got closer when I solo'd it for showroom stock racing.Cars are full of trade offs. What if you had the seat, the actual seat huposltry restuffed or re Wired, kinda thinking out loud, butt if you sunk lower in the seat it might gain the inch you need.I hate to see someone alter the mounts just for safety issues...

That is indeed what it says on the firewall, but not on the manual nor the parts list. Go figure.

You could always open the sunroof and sit on a phone book. You'll want goggles too.

I'm 6ft. One of the few cars I did not have the seat all the way back was the Datsun 2000. The 1st car I had a pblm with was a 63 T-bird & many, others since then. My 95Q is all the way back & is OK, but just barely.

I drove an ES300 & my head was on the roof from the time I got in 'til I got out. It was owned by a woman.

I'm 6' 3" and 275lbs. and only have problems on long drives for long extended periods of time! Thought about seat re-location in Q! Already done before in race cars but, didn't have to worry about carpet or power seats!

I have an 02 F50. I'm 6'4" and my head touches the roof with all adjustments maxed.

The seat is all the way back and down. The back of the seat is halfway between normal upright and "gangsta lean"..<rolleyes>.

I'm actually going to see if I can mod the bracket this weekend. If I can't, then it's going to a local custom shop to be lowered by pros. I'm tired of the roof tickling my head.

6'2" and I fit in my '91 & '92 G50's perfectly

I feel unusually cramped in my P10, and the B13 I had was about the same.(I scrape the headliner with out the seat leaned back "ghetto" style)

Back to the drawing board...

One of the reasons I was considering a Q over another 240 was for space and comfort. I'm 6'5" and I'm tired of driving little cars.

I need more seat time in a Q...

Wow alot of 6ft3 guys on the board.. WELCOME TO THE 6ft 3 Club!!!

I'm 6'3 and its funny I had a dream last night and I got measure at 6'4 ...hmmm maybe I keep wishing I was taller and started to dream about it lol.

But I know what you are talking about. I am a long 6'3 with long arms and limbs. I usually pull the seat almost to back to stretch my legs...on the bottom part I usally I have the top part to the highest point and the back part to the lowest to get a comfortable feel. I also bring the lumbar support up a few notches so my lower back isn't feeling loose in the seat. It's really to each his own. I have a bad back and have athritis so I usually try to bring the sit almost at a parallel towards the roof but when I start getting pain I recline a little.

FYI, the seats in the newer Q are the most comfortable I have ever been in because of how wide the seats are and plush they feel. That was one of the main reasons why I got a newer Q. My head does not scrape the roof almost like it did in my 94 J30 (man those seats killed me...too narrow).

Hope that helps, good luck.

I'm 4'6" and I fit just fine in my F50...

The extra pillows in the seat really improve visibility and make the long road trips seem like a "short" trip to the grocery store.

I've modded all of my shoes by super-gluing the soles from the Dollar Store sandals. Most of my shoes now have about 4 - 5 extra soles glued to them. This really helps in allowing me to floor the pedals and see eye-to-eye with most people around the office....
