Hey people, I will be installing a turbonetics system in my car soon (hopefully), and I was thinking of V-mounting the IC. I know I would loose the direct air contact. But I would gain direct air on the radiator, as well as being able to mount oil-cooler and transmission-cooler in front. Was wondering what everybodys thoughts were on this??

lot of work, but it's badass none the less. I would check out SCC's project Silvia for some ideas. They moved the rad back about 6 inches, and it's probably way(relatively speaking) easier than doing a V-mount

I live close to you (the Valley) and it gets way hotter here than where you are. I don't know that you will need to give the rad direct air. Sounds like additional work just for the sake of additional work. Cool if you are going for style points though. Here is what I would do...Front mount the IC, close up some gaps around the stock rad to make sure airflow is good, then sidemount the transmission and oil cooler.BTW, I think a transmission cooler is ok (automatic eh?), but why the oil cooler? Oil must come up to temperature to do its job as designed, and almost ALL the ghetto oil kits do NOT include a thermostat or bypass, which means they frequently overcool the oil. Nothing good there. Not only that, you are adding a great place for an oil system failure and particle junk to collect. Unless you are on boost hard 70% of the time or more, I don't know that an oil cooler will benefit you.

I would like to see others opinions on an oil cooler, since I am hardly the last word in engine building.

IMO the v-mount setup is bad ***....the best of looks and performance combined...it was designed to keep the radiator in the air flow instead of putting the intercooler in front of it causing the engine to overheat...funny thing is this has nothing to do with why i'm doing it...for me its all about the spool, less then half the IC piping equals less turbo lag...also i think it looks awsome both with the hood closed and popped...

i agree with redline, a large reason for me is the piping, but I am considering running an air-water IC. The oil cooler is just an option I was considering, it depends what the final verdict on the built motor. The transmission cooler is actually for a manual, the reason I want it is because the car will be used on the track and maybe some drifting, so i am concerned with the high revs. but with a motor setup costing close to 6-8k I want it to be as long lasting as posible while still putting mid 300 hp.

p.s. plus a v-mount is one less thing for a law enforcement to notice while its on the road.
