The biggest pet-peeve I have with my J right now is that the leather on my steering wheel has started to deteriorate. I was wondering how many other people were having this same problem. I have been doing some research and I might have found a place that will make replacement covers made to fit our steering wheels, spokes and all. I know some people have been completely satisfied with the WheelSkins covers, but I want my wheel to look as stock as possible. I'm waiting to get an email back from this company and I will have some more information. They are not a sponsor on NICO so I am not going to list their name on here. From the limited info that I have, I believe that you can custom order different colors with 30 colors to choose from. I believe that a black cover for our car might be somewhere between $45-$60. This is for a replacement leather cover, you will cut off the leather on your wheel and replace it with this cover. From the pics that I saw it looks pretty much factory when you finish with it. They estimate the install time at 6 to 8 hours depending on sewing experience, so this is definitely not your WalMart wheel-cover. They also have this option available for some covers "having your wheel kits PRESEWN saving you 2-3 hours of sewing time. It is much easier to sew, and looks like factory original for an fee of $15.00"When I hear back from them and If I can get a cover I will take pictures of the before, the install and the finished wheel. I am not associated with this company in any way, I just know that this has been an issue with some of our older Nissans and Infinitis. Maybe they will become a sponsor.

A lot of J owners (past and present) have bought steering wheel covers from wheelskins in the past.

The wheelskins are nice. A friend of mine put one on his Legend & it looks great. When the steering wheel leather went bad on my 4th gen Maxima I searched the wrecking yards to find a good steering wheel & I replaced it completely.

Black, and sort of half and half. One of the three female drivers in the family had a nervous habit of pickin' at the wheel, so the top half is a bit picked apart and the bottom looks almost new. The sun was probably harder on the top half too.

It looks to me like the J30 and 300ZX steering wheels are very similar or the same. Does anyone know for sure? I believe a new OEM wheel sells for over $600, minus all of the accessories, air bag, etc.

My black coating is dry rotted/sun baked and coming off. Under the black coating it looks almost like stainless steel. One J owner on here had the same thing happen and he peeled all of the black off and then polished it and he said it looked almost as good as factory chrome. If I don't get an email by Wednesday evening, I am going to give a call to the company. As soon as I get some info I will be sure that everyone that is interested gets the information. They also do shift and e-brake handle boots.

I must be lucky, my 97 J has mint OEM steering wheel. EVERYTHING in my interior is mint, except the windshield defrost vent is popping out a bit. Anyone have that?

What's the procedure doc? It doesn't seem to want to go down. Do I have to take it out and remove all the old adhesive and apply new? And what adhesive did you use? I'm trying to make my J a beauty queen by July. ha ha

Who knows what stain remover works the absolute best? Tan interior.

Mr Clean magic eraser works well (but use it gently with lots of water) to get stains and scuffs out. I use it on my Saab which has a tan leather interior. Works well.

Wheels ~ TSW Laguna 17X8 40mm offsetTires ~ 235/45R-17 Hankook Ventus HRII I haven't finished fitting them yet. I have enough clearance to run some spacers, I just have to take the time to see what spacers I can run without rolling my fenders or anything like that.

I still have not had any contact with the leather shop yet. I have been calling and got a busy signal or no answer. Today I am going to call once a hour until I get to speak to a human.

I finally got to talk to a human today and it was the owner of the company. He said he was 90% sure that they had the patterns for the J30 in house and that he would call me back on Tuesday to confirm as most of his employees had went home for the day. I am also having him check on the Q and 240.Lets cross our fingers.

As Yoda would say... I think he meant "stealership"

I waited all last week to get a call back from the owner of the company and never received one. I called him back today and they are having trouble finding the pattern for the j30. He said that they use the old leather to get their pattern from and that they should have the leather or pattern there somewhere. He said that the reason for the trouble finding the j30 was that they have not done one in the past 10 years. He said that he would search for a couple of more days and then call me back.If he can not find the pattern or leather, I am going to try to find one at a junk yard to cut off and send to him. So it might take a little time but we will have a factory looking answer for our steering wheel problems. He said he has had the 240 pattern in his hands so he knows that that cover is available. I am not going to post this in any of the larger boards until I get a cover and install it, so that I can check for fit and quality. When I do the install I will take pictures and do a how to.When I know something else I will make a new post with the new info.
