Thinking of getting a G37. Coming from a Volvo S60R. Had a fun time with the car but seemed like I was going to the service department about 3-4 times a year for stupid little nuisance items, no major problems though but trips to the dealer are so time consuming and a hassle. My Acura TL, Honda Prelude, even Mitsu 300GT VR4 only went to the dealer for oil changes! I liked the rarity/uniqueness of the S60R but I miss the Japanese reliability.

A guy in the Motor Trend forums was swearing up and down that Infinity was more akin to the European makes as far as low-maintenance than Lexus/Acura. Can someone give me the honest skinny on the G37 coupe and sedan. Many problems. I've always tried to avoid first model years so also wondering if the 2009's are any better then the 2008's? I know on the first year model S60R in '04 there was a lot of Tech. Service Bulletins that were all taken care of and then some in the '-05.

If I go back to Japanese and it ends up being as temperamental as a BMW - I'll go nuts.

23k miles and I've only had two issues, both taken care of under warranty. One was an alignment issue and the other was a rattle in the muffler (probably caused when I bottomed the car out while having my wife guide me down a narrow gravel drive) in which they just replaced the system.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately TrueDelta has no 2009 info yet and that is really the year I'm most interested in.

If you are looking at a coupe, the only real difference between the '08 and '09 is the auto transmission. The rest is the same. From a sedan perspective, the '07 and '08 have the same body/electronics/interior as the '09 but came with the VQ35HR instead of the VQ37VHR. So, if you want to see expected reliability of the '09 coupe, look at the '08 coupe. If you want to see expected reliability of the '09 sedan, look at the '07-08 sedan for everything except engine issues and use the '08 coupe for motor reliability.

My experience is the same with the G37. In 2 years I have only been to the dealership for the muffler TSB and the air bag sensor recall(which Infiniti screwed up almost beyond belief). I'm grateful for this car's reliability since I live 115 miles from the dealership.

I have had issues with my G35 but the dealership experience makes them not so bad.... Plus you get to drive around in a brand new loaner and beat the piss out of it

It is far better than any european car i know of!

I have had a mechanically trouble free year and 2 months. My biggest complaint about my car is the paint. My car has more battle scars than my 14 year old Camaro.

Rock chips are horrid on cars painted in Japan due to environmental regulations. That's why I invested in a clear bra and right now I only have a handfull of chips to touch up around the wheel wells and the edges not covered by the bra.

This is really good to know. I have stoneguard on my Volvo so I would definitely do it again on the Infinity.

Since it's really a Nissan at heart, I expect Infiniti reliability to be similar.

My G37S is 22 months old and has 18,600 miles. The only problem I have experienced so far is a short lived buzz in the instrument cluster when I hit a sharp bump. Next week, when I bring the car in for an oil change, I will ask the dealer to fix the buzz under the warranty.

Since I bought the car in 07:

Regular Oil changes 5000 Miles with full Syn and new Oem filter every other change.

4 Tires (Got almost 58,000 out of the stockers and would have gone a little more, drove it right to the metal on the right rear (forget what that metal in the tire is called right now)

New brake pads for the rear ( wore out in 20k but fronts are still looking good after 65,xxx on the clock...I am amazed.

Just had the dealer change the trans fluid at 63k, I will do the diff and transfer case next week when I can get a good day.

Overall I am very pleased with my 07. Runs perfect. Other than a few chips of the paint that needs to get fixed soon since I can see rust I give this car 9/10.

No issue on my 07 for 2 years and no issue on my 08 for a year. Only complain I had was the grill pitting crazy. Replaced it under warranty.
