i'd like to know because my friend's stock 05 is really giving me a rash. where'd the 05 get 27 hp and how can i get it?

05 auto has 280 I believe, manual having 298 (same as coupe).

I thought the only difference between the sedans was the intake?

I think the extra power comes from the fact that the 05+ engines have variable exhaust cam timing, and also rev higher.

2005 5AT comes stock with 280 HP

with all the mods you have on yours, you should be pushing more than him by this point, right?

I believe the difference is the rev up engine.

2003/2004 has 260, 280 with the rev-up engine - for automatics

2003/2004 manual transmissions have 280 HP/ 298 with the rev up engine

tollboothwilley: forgot about the revup engine. what all does that include? is it just the manifold? as far as speed, i think we're WAY too close for what i've done to my car. we haven't raced from a dead stop but from a rolling run we were dead even.

Not to upset you at all, but this makes me a little excited cuz i'm selling my 2003 5AT sedan and i'm going to be buying a 2005 6MT which will be pushing 298. There seems to be a pretty good difference in feel between the manual and auto trannys alone...plus with the rev-up it should be a little better. Hard to find the 6MT in the sedan!!

As far as the rev-up engine, I'm not exactly sure what is different. I'll check into that and see if i can find out

EXCELLENT! A+ for research!

from what i'm seeing the "rev-up" engine only gains it's hp from having a higher red line; hence the term "rev-up."

am i wrong? cuz i was wrong one time before.... back in 1993.

I believe they have a slightly higher compression in the cylinders, as the engine has been tuned some

SUPER EXCELLENT!

pistons and camshafts! CRAP! what a pain! deffinitely a lot of $ for the gain (i'm at least smart enough to know that i can't do it myself).

i'd still like to know about putting an 05 ECU in an 04. that one's going to be a toughy.

kick *** job, dude!

Most of those numbers are marketing. My 04 6 speed should be 260bhp, just like the 03 model. I put it on the dyno with just a pop charger and made 233 whp with heavy g35 coupe wheels. 20% drive train loss on 260bhp is not 233whp, it is 208whp. 280bhp w/20% drive train loss is 224whp. So with the horsepower I was making, that should be 290bhp. This has been a discussion for many years. The 03/04 sedans were making just as much as the 05 non sport sedans.

Wouldn't reflashing with an actual performance tune be better than swapping the ecu's out?

But then again i don't know anything about these cars.

Reflashing the ecu isn't going to do much without some supporting mods. Intake, headers, exhaust, cams, etc.

My car (03 sedan AT) came with a mechanical fan which could also be a reason it puts out less HP. When I upgraded to an electric, the car really livened up. I'm not sure how much HP I actually freed up, but it was noticeable. I noticed a larger difference when I took the fan off then when I put under drive pulleys on.

Incorrect. The 03 sedans simply came with a 260 HP version of the motor. Not sure what the actual difference is, but I'm sure it's more than just an ECU. Perhaps a slightly different cam profile.

The 280 HP version of the motor appeared with the G35 coupe and with the 6MT sedan. The auto transmission sedan didn't get 280 HP until 2005.

The Rev-up made it's appearance with the 05 6MT models boasting 298 HP. This included a different intake plenum, and introduced a 3-stage variable exhaust cam timing in addition to the infinitely variable intake cam timing set-up that was already being used. The rev-up version was never used with the automatic transmission equipped G's.

I think all 04 sedans had 260hp (auto and 6mt), while 05+ sedans were 280 vs 298 (auto vs 6mt).
