Are you seeing more Versa's on the road south of the border?I'm only in one teeney part of canuckland - Toronto.

Here there are more Versa around than when I got mine back in Sept. But I think I see more e.g. MINI's on the road than Versa. Here the Yaris is king of the small cars.

My brother and his wife just got one. I prefer the V but Yaris ain't that much smaller inside and gets better mileage. My sisiter in the UK has a turbo diesel Yaris and it gets 60 mpg on the highway. Last winter my V with CVT averaged 24.5 mpg city driving and recently in the warmer weather on the highway I got 34 mpg. I'm no lead footie. I think Versa is a mini GAS HOG for an economy car. So there.

It takes quite a while of sales to see cars get "popular" on the road, just simply because of how many cars are actually registered and used.

V's are very popular in the US. Early in their production, they were selling twice as fast as Nissan anticipated, which created the early production shortfalls.

I know you asked about South of the border but thought I'd chime in about V's out here on the west coast of the Great White North. When I bought my V back in October I was thinking that I was the only owner in BC. I've been seeing more and more of them all the time and now I see more V's than Fits. Still way more Yarii around tho. But despite the better gas mileage the Yaris may get I'm glad I didn't buy that tin can. Spend some time in the Yaris, then spend some time in the V. You decide. The V is simply nice to be in. The Yaris is simply transportation.

When i was in CA well im originally from CA hehehe... but yeah for 2 weeks i saw 2 other versa on the road... i live in arcadia close to pasadena and glendale and west covina... i drove it from SD and back about 5 times... and every where i go there is always someone that will look at my V and admire it... cant wait till they set a price on a full body kit for the V... they said it may run from 200-300 a piece and the set is undetermined... so im just saving up right now for the new kit...

I agree 100% with "Slither". The Versa is certainly a "Gas Hog" for an economy vehicle. I feel I can say this without doubt as I took delivery 7/28/06. I have had mine now 10 months. My mpg may be 26-28 tops combined. Point is.... nowhere near the claims by Nissan when I purchased the car. Had I known the "TRUE" mpg of this vehicle I would have bought the Fit or Yaris.

In addition every other vehicle I have ever owned ie: Fireo, Xterra, Rodeo, Colt etc. I have seen them all over the road in numbers. This Versa is the first I never see after 10 months of ownership. Maryland (Baltimore) area. I can't figure it out.

I believe the Versa is selling #2 behind the Yaris. I see quite a few Yaris sedans. I still have the only Versa in my area. I think the numbers reflect well for the Versa considering the number of Nissan Dealerships compared ot Toyota ands since it's a completely new model for the US. The Yaris, is just a redesigned Echo, which was a replacement for the Tercel.

As for fuel economy, Nissan definitely lags Toyota and Honda is this regard, but it's not any worse than the Cobalt or Aveo. Don't forget it's almost a 2800lb car with average aerodynamics. Driven under the conditions that match the EPA test, I think it will match those numbers. But in real world conditions, due ot it's weight and aerodynamics, mileage falls off quickly from there. I averaged 29mpg with a 900lb trailer (GVW of 4200lbs with luggage and passengers) on mostly freeway driving. I weighed as much as a minivan or midsized SUV, but I still got better mileage.

I think this car gets lower mileage if you drive it too slowly. It's more efficient at more moderate throttle positions.

I've still only seen three or four on the road in this area since I bought mine last September. I've been happy with the 33 mpg I've averaged over 26,500 miles, but certainly would have never considered the Yaris, no matter what the mileage! Might have considered a Fit, but have yet to see one in a showroom, and wouldn't pay the extra charge they are still asking.

When I got my V here in Toronto, the dealer had about 30 or 40 on their lot. Only one 6spd MT though, and I got that one

The versa doesnt seem to be too popular around here in South TX. I am in San Antonio and I think I have only seen 2 in the last few weeks.

I bought mine last July and until very recently I would have agreed with you about the gas mileage. But since the weather warmed up here in NY and the spring/summer gas formulations took over, my gas mileage has improved significantly. On a recent trip to PA I registered 36.3 mpg. On return with a car load of stuff to move, it was 31.2 mpg. My most recent fill-up showed a healthy 32.7 mpg in mixed driving. Car has about 13,000 miles on it and is an SL with CVT.

I was the second one to pick up a V from my Nissan Dealership, I would see one of 2 here and there since I've had mine. Now all of a sudden since Memorial Day I've seen many. I drive 18 miles on the highway to get to work and in those 18 miles I normally see a minimum of 2 on the other side of the highway. My mom is head accountant at the dealer i got mine from and she told me after Memorial Day weekend they sold twice as many Versas as they did Altimas and that never happens. People are buying these thinking their going to get their 38 mpg but they will soon come to find out that that is not the case. I myself couldn't be happier with my car even if it is somewhat of a gas hog.

The Yaris, is just a redesigned Echo, which was a replacement for the Tercel.

I know this is not a Yaris forum, but just to be accurate....

The current Yaris is a second-generation model of the Vitz/Yaris line, whereas the Echo was based on the first generation Vitz/Yaris. These two generations of Vitz/Yaris/Echo are actually quite different from each other. You could say that the Yaris is a redesigned Echo, but it is a total redesign, with a completely new platform.

Now, back to the Versa....
