most jobs (dealership or otherwise), you'd have to be 18. . . but i think you can get a work permit if you're 16 . . .

besides that, it's just the discretion of the dealership whether they want to hire you

Sure. I worked my way thru HS and college at a British Leyland/fiat/Lancia/Saab dealer. Detailing cars and doing minor work, deliveries cars. It was fun especially being a car nut. Nice people, decent $. Far better than fast food or retail

FYI I began working at that dealer two years before I had a drivers license. I believe there are some NICO folks that work at dealerships that could perhaps share their views about it

Jesus christ! The technicians at that dealership must have been masochists. I wouldn't want to work on any one of those cars, let alone all of them.

I started out as a detailer and a mechanic's helper. They had an indoor wash bay and a nice lighted/heated area to detail in the winter. After I had gotten my license I started to deliver cars, run for parts and trade cars with other dealers in addition to the detailing and minor mechanical stuff. It was a fun job for a teen car nut.

jacob, yeah, you're right. This dealer dropped British Leyland before they withdrew from the US market because the cars were so awful. ALWAYS in for warranty work, usually electrical problems. Fun cars, but having seen them up close, I have zero desire to own one

You have to be 18 for insurance reasons.
